    Posting Blues

Great guitar playing. The vocals seem to have a bit too much reverb and are somewhat loud, but the lyrics seem fun. I think lowering the vocals will actually help to center your voice more. That is, focus on your natural voice more -- it's good! Hope your pals enjoy! g :)

    New Tune

Nice tune. I really like the vocals -- there's some serious balls there, for a 'soft' song. The break at 2:10 works well. What effect did you use on the vocals? I use the drum tracks on a keyboard, so I know about limitations, but keep writing cool tunes and good luck w/the drum machine...

    Jobs

Interesting posting! As for where this belongs, fuck it. That being said, I'm an English instructor at a community college. Someone asked me recently what the favorite part of my job was. I replied, "3 things -- June, July, August." The 3 months off in the summer are entirely worth the...

    First attempt

Hey...Fun tune! I really like the bass line. The vocals are a bit loud, but great harmonies! The git sounds nice and sharp. The song is catchy and everything ties together nicely. Jammin! g-man

    new old songs

Hey, all - I just posted 2 songs at NWR. These are songs I wrote about 10 years ago, but finally recorded this week. Talk about procrastination! Let me know what you think. Pictures - Just me and my guitar. I wrote this when I was working with inner-city youth. I'd like to add piano, I...

    New to recording

Welcome! Here are some things to consider... 1. Start saving $$$ 2. Read as much as possible here...and then read some more. (try not to get overwhelmed w/all the info, either) 3. Don't feel like you have to keep up with the Jones'...buy stuff that fits into your budget only after you have...

    Pro studios w/hard surfaces?

Hey, all -- Looking at pics of professional studios online, I've noticed that the recording spaces are enormous, for one thing, and that the floors are often hardwood, as well as the walls. They are certainly not covered with carpet or other sound absorbing material, or even mattresses (as in...

You know what pisses me off???

Up here in the sticks (northern NY), there are about 6 (yes, 6!!!)top-40 country stations, an oldies station, and your classic rock crap...I, like some of you, listen to NPR most of the time, though I like Acid's idea of making a CD of downloads from this site. I'll have to try that. Mostly...

    Thrash/punk

I'd like to hear some covers

Bruce, nice job w/the Cure! It's hard to duplicate Robert Smith's vocals, and you give it a good shot. dachay, a wonderful version of a classic song. I'm a little put off by the tambourine. I wished it would stop so I could just mellow out to the voices!!! :D :D :D :D

    Yet...another Erland song

Mix, I agree w/WATYF. I'm not into the groove at all. I think it detracts from the song. The violin, the pan flute - thing...these just aren't working for me. Production-wise, sure, it sounds fine. Smooth and glossy. But, musically, I think you overpower Erland's voice and playing. The...

New tune from my studio...a rocker!

HOLY SHIT!!! I just listened to "So Long" -- I saw the title, and thought, "I wonder if this is the song by Fischer Z. Nah, probably not..." Lo and be-fucking-hold, it is. Great cover, great choice... When you sing "somewhere living in France," there could be more of the original's drawl...

New tune from my studio...a rocker!

I really like the song -- I like Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, etc... You do a nice job w/this cover. Very raw, not over-produced. My kind of music!!! I'm wondering if a little bit of distortion on the rhythm guitar would add a certain fullness to the song. Maybe? Anyhow, great tune!!! :D

    Instruments playing the melody

In my college band, I used to just improvise for a guitar solo -- sometimes, it sounded cool...other times, just stupid. At the time, I had only been playing a few years. But, in doing cover songs, I had to learn well-known leads (like the Cars' "Just what I needed"). As a whole, this made...

take the time to hear "Take The Time"

Cool tune!!! This was a lot of fun to listen to. The ups and downs and changes all work very well together. The guitars sound a bit thin, especially around 1:20 (2nd verse). As Cyan said, I didn't care too much 'cause the song was fun to listen to. :D

    peak files don't change!?

So, it's desirable since the original wave file doesn't change, only in the way it plays in that particular song file, right? Thanks, Slack!

    Recording acoustic guitar

Chuck - The local luthier said the exact same thing. After a few days of my fingers hurting, I really like the sound of the mediums. I am more prone to buzzing, b/c of the heavier gauge, but the sound is worth it. It also makes a huge difference since my git leans a bit more toward the high...

    Erland's song

This is a beautiful song. I agree w/most everyone's comments. The cello is very unique. Going against the grain, however, at 1:00, everything but the guitar and voice ends and doesn't start again until 1:11, which seemed to be an awkward change that early in the song Where it gets quiet...

    peak files don't change!?

I have the registered version of nTrack and have used it for a few songs so far, but I'm wondering why, when I add compression to a track, the peak file for that track doesn't change? It still looks the same no matter what I do to it. According to some basic compression articles I've read, the...
