    cubase le worth it?

Yes! I had only used nTrack before. LE came w/my Saffire. It is very user-friendly and stable. I am looking to upgrade to SE3, etc. Definitely worth the look.

    Up All Night

Hi, all. Been a long time since I posted a song, so here's a new one. I figure it's about my 15th song that I've recorded, so I'm still quite a newb at all this. Questions: 1. That damn cardboard kick sound! It's from a very inexpensive synth (as if you couldn't...

    New Studio Pics

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing. I love the state-of-the-art personal notation device (typewriter) in the 2nd pic. :D

    Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain"

I agree. The antique sound at the beginning is a bit thin, making the change abrupt and startling. Otherwise, the performance is great. I really like your voice! Kinda sounds like Elvis Costello at times. (hope that's a compliment for you!)

Duncan Sheik gives tracks away for re-mixing with his new record

Didn't Todd Rungren do something like this a few years ago?

    recording tambourine

How close are you to the mic? I find it helps to be several feet away.

Is it wrong to like The Edge?

Good point. He seems very content to be part of a band. His sounds aren't buried by the others, but rather complements them well. It's also interesting to look at their history and remember that they were awful "musicians" when they started. Their first priority was to be in a rock band...

What jobs do yall have? Pay? Hours?

I'm an English professor at a community college. I make close to 50k (after six years). During the semesters, the work is time-consuming. I spend many nights and weekends grading essays and so on. (We always joke that we should have gone into teaching math or history, where grading...

    All hail Ethan Winer!!!

That is so cool. Who needs synths? Learn to play an instrument!!!!

Is it wrong to like The Edge?

No, he's not flashy or fast, and yes, he relies on his delay, etc. But couldn't we say the same about lots of guitarists relying on their effects and/or amps? I'd like to hear some of these guys play without any 'help.' I love playing with effects 'cuz it sure does make me sound better than I...

Compress track in vs. compress post track

This book suggests the same, to get the optimal level, but warns against over-compressing. It's a cool book for the beginner, by the way! ;)

The evolution of the home studio

Cool article. I love to read about musicians making albums this way. Less is often more. Really reminds you that "it's the song, stupid." The best equipment in the world won't help a bad song. ;)

    Two Songs recorded (Indie/Soft Rock)

Soft Landing -- I like the general vibe here -- melodic, shifting, and so on. The vocals are really buried, and that's too bad, cuz you seem to have a nice voice. Can't make out any lyrics, though. I really like the building toward the end. Nice job! All the Old Games has a cool guitar...

    Quitting

After college, when I was playing solo gigs, I bought a Tascam 4-track. I am technically challenged, so I got real frustrated and sold it. I figured, hey, what's wrong with recording on my boombox? I still have those cassettes. Several years later, after more college, marriage...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

How many CDs have you sold? Um, let me think......................oh, that's right, 0. Alright, I suppose I should have one to sell first off. Actually, I did make one last year and gave away about 25 copies to family and friends. My brother said he was really 'digging' it...
