Yes he does. Now. But not in 1979 when I saw him at the Baked Potato on Lankershim Blvd in Los Angeles.

    Favorite Guitar/Amp combination?

Or how about a '64 Strat into a '66 Vibrolux Reverb and a '56 Les Paul into a '91 Mk IV Boogie. Actually the Paul into the Vibrolux is really crunchy - and the '60 Tele into the '66 Pro Reverb really shimmers, too. ;)

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

When I was at GIT, Robben Ford came and did a workshop. He brought his own guitar, but ran it into a 2 x 12" Lab Series amp. A real crappy piece of equipment. He sounded just like Robben Ford. (Duh!) But Robben wasn't happy with his sound, as he was used to playing through a Boogie. As...

Does this make any difference whatsoever?

Dunlop Jazz Ones. Small and very hard. Easy to move around quickly and always retains it's shape. Not so sure whether they make any difference to the tone themselves, but they facilitate my playing which certainly affects the tone.

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

I guess it comes down to the level you are playing at. For the average Joe (or Itsac or . . .) who plays fiddle in a country band at the Dew Drop Inn every Friday night, yer basic ebony (graphite? plastic?) bow probably works just fine - even tho' Joe can probably tell there is some...

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

Just got back from England. Gas was almost $6 a gallon. . . . and that's adjusted for the smaller US gallon, not the Imperial (UK) gallon. :( Shut up and play yer guitar! :)

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

:D My 2 cents: If you think Gibson guitars are over-priced, don't buy one! I have played several PRS guitars and every one was a really nice guitar. But I don't own any, 'cos the Gibsons and Fenders that I do own all cover the same territory very well. I do own a Collings 000-2h which...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

Ain't that the truth! I have several really nice guitars - some are vintage and some are more recent. Every one is a great guitar. I never set out to be a collector - my deal was I wanted one of everything (style-wise) so I could play any gig that came along. The guitars I bought and traded...

For those with vintage instruments...Do you play them?

Sorry Light, but I have to disagree. My guitars have been a great investment. I paid $400 for my '64 Strat. I traded three guitars that I paid a total of $1,350 for my '56 Gold Top. I paid $1,650 for my '61 ES345. The Strat was worn (not abused, tho') and has a replacement bridge block and...

do you know what guitar is that

It's an early Sixties Epiphone Coronet - this red finish, which has little flecks of yellow in it is referred to (maybe unofficially) as red fox finish. May be as early as late '61 through about '64. (Don't have my reference books with me - it appears to have a P-90 and three-on-a-side tuners...

    Ears

:D Ain't that the truth! What's really funny is I used to do a tune for laughs called 'Clear the House Boogie) which predominantly featured Maj 7ths in a blues tune format, complete with 6/8 and everything! This is what happens when you start on a reply with the intention of just writing a...

There are two parts to chord recognition. 1. Is it major or is it minor? 2. What's the bass note? The bass parts of most popular songs fall within the diatonic chord structure (a $2 way of saying chords based on the scale). Once you know how a major scale works (i.e. the 7 notes that make...

What is the use of a telecaster?

Ed Bickert used a Tele for really muted jazz a la Joe Pass. But they're real strength is for the Albert Lee/Vince Gill country solo. Versatile - Keef, the Boss, Albert Collins, Jimmy Page, the solo on Pretenders 'Middle of the Road' etc. They're light and ringy, so girls like to play them...

Probably the 1961 Les Paul Special. Double Cutaway non-SG shape. Great little guitar.

    history and dating LP's ...

Some of the info can be misleading or confusing - there was a period when Gibson just didn't keep good records. If you can't figure out what you're trying to find, post somehting here and I'll help you out.

    Do-It_Yourselfer

Sounds good - and the money you save by buying the kit will allow you to buy really good hardware and a great pickup. Tuners are really important - I like Gotohs - and a good solid bridge. Don't know if you're going the whammy bar route - I have a Floyd Rose on mine and wouldn't go that route...

Western Steel Guitar without having one?

lpdeluxe' suffestion of a *6 tuning is really good, too. It's automatic Western Swing. A quick half-step slide into those chords and it will really give you the sound.
