Junior? Great sound, easy to play. Straight into a 4 x 10" bassman with everything on 10. Oh yeah!

    $225K+ Martin

A pre-war D-45 is about as rare as a snowball in Phoenix in July. . . . and a great guitar (craftsmanship, woods and etc.) That's why it's $200k+

What is the deal with Rickenbacker?

Yep - some of the Pretenders stuff from the 80s is all about a Rick 12-string

    Boutique acoustics revisited....

I can only speak from personal experience. The 000-2H that I own was fairly tight when I bought it. Now - seven years later, it absolutely sings. It is really 'live'. I think the Martins of the world make some excellent guitars (I have one). But when you are making thousands of guitars a...

    Boutique acoustics revisited....

That is about the saddest thing I've read here for a long time. Where are you going to look at these guitars? I have two Collings and a Ramirez guitar (all three are absolute killers) - and the stores they came from were run by guitar guys who really knew their stuff. Not dusting the...

    1955 Fender Strat...

I used to buy and sell vintage guitars for a living. I cannot offer an opinion on it's legitimacy without actually holding it in my hands. The look and feel of the real thing is not something that can be captured in a photo. Just my 650 yen.

    Pickups 101

Usually Light you are right on the money with every piece of advice I''ve ever seen you give. But I have to disagree with you on this one. An early 80s dot neck re-issue is a great guitar for doing BB King (and a whole bunch of other stuff). I've played several - and every one was a good one...

    Pickups 101

20 years old makes it a dot-neck reissue, I think (unless they put out another 335 at that time - anyone?). Which should have PAF re-issues in it. Are you sure it's 20 years old? Anyway - if it is a dot-neck re-issue I agree with the 'do not take the pickups out' - because you should have a...

    sad chord progressions?

The Moonlight Sonata is in C#minor (see Db minor above) It is crushing in it's sadness.

    raising the poles

It will lower the overall volume of the pickup (and potentially give you a cleaner sound) - except for the pole pieces that you raise which will increase the volume of the strings under which you have raised the polepieces. What kind of sound are you looking for - and what type of guitar and...

    modes are confusing me

Okay the really simple version based on the information you are asking for: A mode is a major scale played with a different starting note than the major scale's root. (Don't pay any attention to the guys who will tell you that a B# is different to a C - it is, but in this context it doesn't...

Does any one have the chord changes for the song "Mas Que Nada"?

So that means take everything up a minor third. That's three frets to you Mr. Kobain . . . :D

    Lead guitar through bass amp

That depends on the Fender Bassman you're talking about. The original design (4x10 combo) sounds great for some guitar applications.

    Mesa Boogie

If you don't have the opportunity to record with mics at 'gig volume', you might want to consider a Mk IV. Use the record out straight into the recorder - works great. . . . and a Mk IV is also a very versatile amp for gigging, too. Great range of tones and it will happily take your head off...

Your favorite brand of Acoustic Guitar?

Collings - no contest. Although I played an Everett at 'The Podium' in Minneapolis and it was a great guitar. Really 'live'.

best way to mike acoustic guitar

Two mics. One horizontal, level with the guitar about a foot in front of the nut pointing at the soundhole. The other about 6 inches above, and about a foot in front of, your picking hand's shoulder, pointing downwards at the soundhole. This was advice I got from someone on this board (can't...
