    Passive MIDI patchbay?

Actually, I may be overcomplicating things myself! I think I'll just buy and mount 5 MIDI Din sockets to a rack mount plate. Cut three MIDI cables in half (throw one half away) and solder them to the backsides of the Dins (remembering to slip the shrink tubing on FIRST! :D ). Perhaps, I could...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

Actually, if I understand what you're saying I would have to make some custom MIDI cables for my outboard gear that terminates in TRS phono jacks. The rub there is that if I forget or break a cable there's no ready made solution at the local music store before the gig. It's safer for me to...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

I appreciate this Fredric, but I've got to say with all due respect that you're overcomplicating my situation. I already have a very nice MIDI router (it's in my rack). A MOTU Express. 8 ins and 8 outs. Unfortunately, all but one in and one out are in the back of the unit and I've just...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

I figure this would be the best forum to get an answer to this, even though I need it for a stage rig. Does anyone make a passive MIDI patchbay? Something probably designed to mount into the wall of a studio space and come out the other side? Barring that, anyone make an active MIDI router...

    SKB screws WTF?

The holes don't even go through on the SKB case. They're like molded in anchors that taper to a closed point. I went to Home Depot to get longer versions and the closes I could get were sheet metal 10 screws. They're working fine. Carl

    Patch Bays

Seeing as how this is for my live rig and that I don't need more than 7 inputs (although I'm sure that 8 is the minium of ANY patchbay). Any insigificant noise isn't going to bother me at this stage. I'm thinking the Behringer is going to be the way to go for me. Carl

    Patch Bays

Is that Behringer the one that MF has for $29? That could do it if the back as well as the front are phono jacks too. I'll explain what I'm using it for if this helps others to help me. I've got a line mixer in my keyboard rig that's housed in a new SKB rack. The rack is one of those DJ mixer...

    Patch Bays

I'm trying to find a cheapie cheap patchbay for my SKB rack case. I need 1/4" inputs on the front and the back. 1U for sure. Normalized or not. Any recommendations? Carl

    SKB screws WTF?

Thanks, planning on a visit to Home Depot today. If you get a chance, could you look at my "Shims Spacers" thread? I'm thinking about maybe cutting some wood to fit or using some six sided dice or something. Carl

    SKB screws WTF?

This case is one of those DJ slant top (8 up 4 down) cases. This thing dosen't even have metal rails, just holes in the molded plastic. The screws are really stubby things that fit in these holes just fine. I tried putting in Raxxus screws first and they didn't fit at all. That's when I...

    Spacers or shims in racks?

I started to experiment with that but it felt too unstable. As if the empty space between the screws had an effect on the firmness of a well seated unit. I figure if I could find something that will fit between the rack and the unit without gaps that the leverage or whatever would be better...

    Spacers or shims in racks?

I've got a peice of hardware that's just about one quarter inch too long for my rack case's depth. I'm thinking that if I just put a couple of quarter inch spacers between the rails and my rack ears that should do the trick. The face of the unit is flat and allowing it to stick out another...

    SKB screws WTF?

I just bought an SKB rack case. It comes with screws, but these screws don't seem standard to me. My other rack uses Raxxus hardware. These SKB screws have a much wider thread. I've tried searching for SKB screws on the internet and haven't found anything. If I needed replacements where...

    Sound module recommendation?

Not to be contrary, but what do you base this on? I've owned Roland gear for decades. It works as well today as ever. I only just recently purchased a used MKS-70 from eBay. This unit has an old IC chip that prevents the latest software editors from comunicating with it. Roland is providing a...

    Sound module recommendation?

The Roland JV series is pretty good. How much do you want to spend? The Korg rackmounted Triton and the Yamaha rackmounted Motif are both pretty kick ass. Carl

Getting the most out of a VCR

I've come to the same conclusion. I've designated the VCR in my office (the newest and best condition machine of the four we own) as my new studio stenographer. I'm even considering setting up a camera along with it. Hey, why not? Carl
