Well yes, my problem is that I'm not sure there's much midrange to work with! That, and because the low end is what I have to work with, I'm afraid this will be taking away form the bass. Anyways, I'm still going to give all this stuff a shot over the new week, I haven't had a chance to sit back...
I'm currently running an ART Digital MPA into a Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 i/o (the old ones that were actually sapphire) and am fairly happy with how these guys sound, but am wanting to upgrade to some slightly cleaner pre-amps (as you might know if you saw my other thread). I realized that maybe...
Also, I wanted to say my current set up is to typically use the MPA on kick/snare when recording drums and do the rest through my Saffire. I'll usually simultaneously record scratch tracks through the focusrite, but then go back and re-record everything the the MPA. A few quick questions:
a) Is...
Haha great, thanks guys. It's good to hear two opinions that my focusrite pre's are already decent. I definitely recognize the upgrade from the firepod, but I was curious if there was still a step between them and "real studio" pre-amps, if you know what I mean.
I think I am looking for an...
Thanks. I just tried taking the guitars out and the kick was still sitting pretty far behind the bass, but I'm sure if I actually did some mixing from that point it would help a lot.
I'm also using a Beta 52 for my kick, which I love because it sounds so natural, but I think I've had this...
Hey there friends! I'm interested in a pre-amp upgrade, but I'm wondering if it's worth it at this point or if I should just hold out for the next 20 years while I can save up for something that will actually be a leap. ;)
I'm currently recording using one of the older model Focusrite Saffire...
OK. I have a sample!!
Honestly, this mix is a pretty quick one, and I'm going to be remixing the whole thing once tracking is done (the drums are the only thing not scratch, everything else is using amp sim and will be re-recorded) so it's probably a pretty bad example of this, but I have run...
I love Graham's videos, but his style is pretty commercial and these recordings aren't so much. That said, I did watch the second one last night, and just watched the first one. It's a good idea, but even watching the analyser on my kick channel, I can see there's nothing above 1k to boost for...
Great Idea. I use sidechain compression in my electronic music frequently, but don't really think to use it too much in rock mixing. Thanks.
Even though I have an Alphatrack which makes it super easy to do just this, I always forget to use it as a tool. Especially considering this is how REAL...
I'm having some issues mixing my kick and bass together. I've cut some frequencies inversely to allow these two to sit together, but I'm still having some problems hearing the kick through the bass when the drummer is playing quietly. Unfortunately, the kick was quite boomy (FiberSkyn heads) so...
I recently did a recording with my housemate of a song we wrote together to try out my new mics (Rode NT5s and NT2a), as well as see how good I could get a quick recording to sound. I did pretty minimal engineering, just set up mics and went with it (no moving them around to the best spot or...
This might be a stupid question, but how can you tell when you're mixing at 85dpSPL? Do you have another mic to reference that which is properly calibrated to 0dbSPL? I'm just thinking of all the different volume knobs on my signal path (well really three, my main fader, my interface volume, and...
If you're happy with the interface you have, why not buy a tube pre-amp, like the Presonus TubePre (or maybe even spend a few more calms and get something really decent). You can put this into the line input on the BR800 (I'm also a big fan of the BR line and I started my chops on an 1180 back...
I'm surprised no one has mentioned re-amping yet. I've occasionally done this where I record direct for flexibility, but then send the signal back out through one of my amps and mic it later.
Most of the time I mic the amp for my band, but go DI whenever I'm doing my pop or electronic stuff.
Here's my first mix at my band's upcoming single we're releasing at our next show. It still needs a little tidying up, mostly riding faders on some peaks and what not, but I think it's pretty finished for the most part. Might do some tidying on the drums as well, we played without a click...
I know this is a recording forum, but I figured there are a lot of experienced musicians and producers on here who might be able to help a guy who's new to the whole business side of songwriting and recording out.
I'm in a band that's a three piece. Our drummer has explicitly said he's...
I would imagine there are, but they are probably masters of their craft and have been working with those plugs since the emagic days. I am willing to admit I may be lacking in some knowledge of how to best use the Logic plugins, which is why I'd like to check some other ones out.
The instrument plugins are beyond fantastic, but the effect plugins are a little lacking for me. They sound thin and hollow to me, and colour the sound a bit in a bad way. Maybe that's just me though.
