    My Recording *Please Judge*

The song itself seems okay. Not the catchiest melody of all time, sounds like a bunch of other angsty songs out there. The guitar part is well performed, definitely the strongest part of the whole thing. The lead vocal gets buried at points. Partly due to levels, partly because of eq issues...

mics that can work well in any situation

Your mic isn't going to fix your environment. If you're in a garage, an excellent condenser mic is going to do an excellent job of making you sound like you're in a garage which you may or may not want. It won't make you sound like you're in your living room or a recording booth. A directional...

male operatic vocal ,what should I buy ?

No such thing. All mics cheap and expensive have their own sonic color as do preamps and speakers. The "capture it as it is" is also a slippery concept. As is from 6 inches? 6 feet? 20 feet? In a cathedral? At a bandshell? In your living room? In the middle of an open field? The way a mic...

I'm picking one up for grins. I've been happy with the MXL's I've had, curious to see how this compares.

Marantz Pre-Amp as a mic pre?

Do you think this is a particularly superior way to record or just a novelty and doesn't have any advantage over any number of pre's out there? Not planning to do it myself, just taking a survey for someone. Marantz Audio Consolette Tube Preamp Thoughts by The Daydream Sound - YouTube

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

Isn't it correct that when played in mono the side mic portion cancels altogether leaving *only* the mid mic portion? If you have a L/R only signal that isn't specifically formulated for mono compatibility, doesn't that leave the possibility of unintended partial cancellations? That's what I...

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

As I understand it when summed to mono the side mic cancels out bec of the inverted l/r wave forms leaving the mid signal making it totally mono compatible.

Do you believe that Pentatonix doesn't use Auto-Tune?

Hard to believe their harmonies are that tight without pitch correction.

Supposedly this group doesn't use AT. Do you buy this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MteSlpxCpo

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

That's part of what I'm talking about. You've got two mics stacked vertically, which all the m/s setups I've seen are. One is aimed center, one is taking info from the sides but in a mono fashion. Where is the true Left / Rightness coming from?

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

Here's an example. Its seems the "width" is only there because of the phase inverted side mic tracks as shown by the point in the video where they invert the side mic channels. They demonstrate the mixing of the two starting about 1:00. Bringing in the mid mic seems to just bring fullness to the...

Condenser mics for vocals on a budget

MXL 990. Inexpensive and works on everything.

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

Isn't virtually all of the "width" you hear from phase inverted copies of the mono figure 8 mic? You can get a faux stereo effect by phase inverting copies of any mono mic. As I understand it the main reason to use mid-side is to be mono compatible.

A couple of questions about mid-side recording

Isn't mid-side creating "fake" stereo? I.e. the stereo field is created by inversion of the side mic copies. Instead of using a figure-8 mic for the side mic, why wouldn't a mix of two mics aimed 180 deg apart work?

    Impressions regarding this singer?

Yes, I really like her dusky low range. In at least one example she had a cold but I thought it worked in her favor. Several are from the "country" realm but I assume you mean Sin Wagon since that's the rowdiest of the bunch. I have to laugh because she considers herself primarily country...

People seem to keep having problems with files I have on Google drive, though it works fine for me. Might be browser security settings? There are at least 3 options for downloading.
