Shouldn't headphones be part of the evaluation process? I've heard things that sound decent on speakers but phones reveal issues and vice versa. The goal being to make the mix sound decent no matter what you listen to it through.

By definition the "optimum" is the highest bit rate at which you can encode. These when virtually everyone has high speed connections why not just encode it at the max?

Nice tune, overall decent basic idea for a mix - however there's a lot of spikes (ouch!) that need to be tamed with eq. If you don't hear them there's either an issue with your monitoring setup or your hearing.

To answer the question of how it sounds, it sounds good. It's a nice performance and good recording but no, listening from the player's perspective wouldn't have the kind of stereo field you've got here. But why would you want to capture a player's perspective sound? The guitar sounds best...

Sounds good. As usual the strings and percussion are more convincing than the brass. I have yet to hear midi brass that really sounds authentic.

Just for grins here's a quick demo of some stuff I've done with an MXL 990. The male solo vocals, male harmonies and trumpet stuff was all done with a 990, added to other mixes/backing tracks.

I'll also mention the MXL 990. Has to be one of the best bang/buck mics out there. I imagine you could pull pretty much anything off the MXL pile and be happy. I know the 990 handles horns well. Another good one is a CAD e-100. A couple of different flavors of the 990 on acoustic guitar...
