    M-powered Pro Tools installation Problems

What's the computer, and what operating system are you running?

Help me decide on what to buy...

I wouldn't go with a G5. Pro Tools will no longer support it, and neither do Apple - the highest you can go is Leopard running Pro Tools 8.0.1 I have recently bought a G5 - before Snow Leopard was announced and now I wish I had a Mac Pro! I think the Profire 2626 is an awesome interface, but...

    Pro Tools WITHOUT proprietary software...???

Pro Tools would only ever "see" the Profire2626. It would however see the Profire 2626's ADAT inputs/outputs which presumably your lynx could connect to. You can also clock the Profire2626 externally using either the word clock input or the ADAT ins. It is worth noting that with Pro Tools...

It's firewire 400. Your second question doesn't make sense. Please clarify.

    DigiDesign Plugins not showing up

The iLok is a blue (or red or green) USB dongle. It is used to hold licenses for various pieces of software - usually plugins, but also the license for Pro Tools HD or Pro Tools M-Powered. These licenses are purchased at extra cost to the iLok. Pro Tools LE uses a serial code as its copy...

    DigiDesign Plugins not showing up

I'm assuming you have the Mbox 2 Factory or another interface with the Factory bundle. Assuming you have, the ilok comes pre-authorised meaning all you need to do is plug it in. Go to iLok.com and log into your account then click sync iloks (making sure it's plugged in). Then click on something...

    DigiDesign Plugins not showing up

The chorus, phaser and flanger etc. were only standard with Pro Tools 8, so you won't have them with Pro Tools 7.4. When you say that you can't get the iLok to work, can you be more specific?

Come on let's be serious about this! It's not a big dick competition! The reverbs are no problem - I have HD :D You'd have said the same thing 20 years ago if someone told you that in a few years you could have 256MB of memory for a reasonable price. It's all relative. We're already at the...

I already get that kinda performance on my 2006 Mac Quad Core (pre Intel)... The true limiting factor is the memory. You're limited to 4GB TOTAL on 32bit Windows systems (Not certain about W7-32bit but traditionally the case for XP and Vista 32). Apple systems at least gave you up to 4GB per...

which is best to mixdown to 44.1 kHz or 48.1kHz?

Why not do 96kHz in LE? Or indeed 192kHz in HD? Obviously you need appropriate hardware.

I know, I have a quad core. ;) 8 cores would be better though :D All I'm saying is that the performance of Pro Tools would be the same (if not better) on XP compared to W7 at current. I say better because of the relatively low RAM requirements of XP.

To be honest, with that machine I don't think you'll see much a performance increase with Windows 7 (with respect to Pro Tools). The initial releases of Pro Tools will still be a 32 bit application; perhaps including 64bit memory support; which with only 4GB of RAM you won't really benefit from.

    protools mbox noise

Whilst I'm not disputing your experience, I can say that I have used literally dozens of Mboxs with their original cables and they have all been absolutely fine. Perhaps there were a dodgy batch of cables which went out, or unfortunately you got a duff one. Either way I wouldn't say it's...

Considering going M-powered. What do you guys think?

I think this thread should be locked, it must be considered dead by now... Stop voting!

    Need some help.

So you're using Autotune as an effect on an aux channel, then using a send from the vocal channel? I'd put autotune as an insert on the vocal channel. Alternatively, you could change the output of the vocal channel to go to a bus rather than an output. Or if you're working how I assumed you...

    control surfaces

Two things worth checking out I think: Behringer BCF2000 and M-Audio Axiom Pro Not used the Behringer, but it's the cheapest 8 faders you'll find. The Axiom Pro I have, and it's pretty sweet if you need a keyboard too.

    re-installing pro-tools

There's absolutely nothing stopping you installing Pro Tools on as many machines as you wish. There's no connection to a remote server for example to register your computer with. As a result, you'll be absolutely fine installing Pro Tools again.

    My Snow Leopard Experience...so far!

Which plugins are you referring to? Congrats on getting it all working.
