    numerical display of peaks?!

You're worrying a bit too much about this... But underneath the channel's fader there should be a box displaying "Vol x.x dB" Control (Win) or Cmd (mac) click this box until it says peak.

PT HD CORE PCIX or PICExpress?

I'd go PCIe every time. Digi tried to drop support for PCIx about a year ago so I dare say they will drop support very soon.

How to leave 8 frames between each region??

If doing the second method, remember to have "Tab to Transient" switched off ;) You could also use "Spot" mode (next to grid, slip and shuffle) but to be honest I think Benny's second idea is best.

Scrubber tool sound in Pro Tools

Definitely FOC with Pro Tools 8. If you're using Pro Tools 8, make an edit selection, then go to the Audio Suite Menu, then look for Vari-Fi. The rest should be self explanatory.

Scrubber tool sound in Pro Tools

Vari-fi will do it I think... I'm fairly certain it's included FOC in Pro Tools 8.

    pro tools hardware questions

Benny has helped you out above, but seriously do some homework and read the specs on their website. Your sentence from "Btw" onwards makes no sense. What do you actually mean?

i will pay someone for a mixing lesson

IMO it's too fast because I can't even hear what he's playing, just ends up sounding like noise. That may be down to the quality of that particular recording though. Insane.

    pro tools hardware questions

I'm not sure on specific quad core machines right now, but look on the compatibility pages on the Avid website. When you say soundcard, I assume you mean the onboard computer one? In which case it won't affect sound/performance one iota. The interfaces aren't that expensive. If you compare...

i will pay someone for a mixing lesson

The problem is that you expect mixing to be easy. You're expecting to be good at it right away. It takes years of practice to become very good at mixing. The best advice I can give is just record lots and lots of different bands (for free) and just mix mix mix. You will figure out what...

using auxiliary tracks as a "pre amp"

+1 Rerecord it all man, and make sure it peaks lower! Peaking at -10 wouldn't be a bad idea.

    Enabling MP3 export

Pretty sure that if you use MP3 encoding in iTunes, it also uses the Fraunhofer codec - the same one as used in Pro Tools.

separate partition vs separate hard drive?

Sorry, I have to completely disagree. USB is awful for connecting hard drives when used with any DAW. Quite simply awful. There will be some USB drives (and some other USB devices) when simply connected to your computer will cause Pro Tools to run poorly or sometimes fail to launch completely...

    Pro-Tools is REDICULOUSLY slow/glitchy, help!

Forgot that the OP has Pro Tools 7.1, so it may be OK... Read the above post too though.

    Pro-Tools is REDICULOUSLY slow/glitchy, help!

1GB of RAM in theory is enough, and is the minimum requirement, but on a Pentium 4 it's ALWAYS going to run mega slow. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you (OP) need a more modern computer.

separate partition vs separate hard drive?

Partitioning a drive potentially worsens the effect of recording to the system drive. Just get a second drive ;) Firewire, or SATA (internal) NOT USB!

key command for sample placement in le 8

Well the way I'd do it would be to take the sample and tab to transient up to it, and split the region so it starts on the transient. I'd then copy this region - cmd C (or C in keyboard focus). Then tab to transient along the track you want to replace. Then when you get to where you want the...

Can you speed up half speed recording?

Hmm I think that whatever you do to sort it out will result in it sounding strange, with odd artefacts being added. Definitely give the TCE tool a go though.

Protools HD 101 - (Switching to PT HD)

A little bit of me dies every time I use my 192... The 44.1KHz LED on the front panel will burn out long before the 192KHz one :D So yeah, I agree with benny!

Protools HD 101 - (Switching to PT HD)

I would also research the use of PCIx cards. There was certainly talk of support being dropped for them, meaning you'd not be able to go further than Pro Tools 8 with them. I would strongly consider sticking to a qualified machine, I have seen many systems not run due to rather obscure...

    M box 2 and S/PDIF - ADAT inputs

The Mbox 2 has SPDIF not ADAT so no you cannot put 8 digital channels into it from your Mackie. The SPDIF connection is a stereo connection, so you can only send two digital channels.
