Can you describe what you mean by "it crashed Garage Band and PT". What happened? Your best bet is to speak to Digidesign Tech Support. Finally, Pro Tools does not use drivers. Garageband would use the core audio driver though... That is installed when you install Pro Tools and you should not...

Is the drive firewire, or IDE, SATA? Is it the system drive? What file system is the drive using?

Never had this one myself dude, but I think what you need to do is: File>Save Copy In... Then make sure that the destination session is with the correct parameters. You'll then need to choose whether the audio needs resampling etc. I think this is right anyway... I hope this helps man.

+1 This way you can have audio playing in the "gaps" between tracks. Useful if you want to mark a track as ended, even though there may be some silence, or even applause after the "end". You can also cut off silence before the beginning of a track. If any of that makes sense.

To be honest mate, I would wait until all of the Pro Tools stuff is qualified on Windows 7... Shouldn't be too long, fingers crossed.

I suspect you'll get more helpful answers on the DUC... But it's almost definitely not the OS. My thoughts are that it is likely a hardware issue. However have you got Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 installed? If not definitely install 1, you need it. Consider SP2, though it's not supported, there...

I can't remember the answer now, but you have a couple of options. I am also away from my rig so cannot check. Go Help>Pro Tools Reference Manual and search (using the search function!) for scrolling. The reference manual is so handy. Report back if you can't find it.

Strike is pretty cool... You've given a pretty broad plugin type. Are you looking for an instrument which will play the patterns you input, or play a number of preset beats for you? Strike will do both - and I use it a fair bit.

Yes, assuming you don't decide in 12 months time you actually need 2 mic pres... I'd consider the extra money for the Mbox 2. Possibly even the Factory version - for a little extra you get a fair few decent plugins.

I will put my neck on the line and say that they are identical in terms of quality. I am certain that both have the same pre-amps and converters. The difference is merely the I/O.

I'd go with the Mbox 2. It comes with Pro Tools LE. The Fast Track doesn't come with M-Powered - though it may come with essentials. Like I said - Mbox 2 all the way
