i've had pops -turned out it was clipping slightly!

monitors seem to be 4 ohms. Can ohms be mixed? can a 4 ohm speaker be used on an 8 ohm amp etc

I had a noisey preamp-turned out to be a phantom power problem.Probably won't help you though!just thought I'd mention it:D
