    Note or Sound Dropouts

So I just went a couple search-result pages further and found this: Identifying & Solving MIDI Problems Definitely an interesting read, but I wonder if I'll be able to implement the ideas. I'll have to see if Acid has an option to "ease up" on the timing.

    Note or Sound Dropouts

So I haven't had time to troubleshoot yet, but, it's really slow at work right now, so I did a bit of online research. I did a Google search for "MIDI note drop" and apparently this is a problem across many different platforms. People posted having these problems with Reaper, Cakewalk, and...

    Note or Sound Dropouts

Yes it is. Okay I'll give that a shot when I have time. (I have a couple more busy days at work yet.) Although, when I did notice these problems, the MIDI track was was the only track in the project

    Note or Sound Dropouts

Sure thing! So for whichever song I'm working on, I have the appropriate MIDI patterns (verse/chorus/fills/etc.) saved and drawn across the track timeline. Acid gets its ins and outs from my PreSonus FireStudio Mobile, which also handles MIDI in/out. I'm using the FireStudio MIDI to connect to...

    Note or Sound Dropouts

Could latency have anything to do with it? I increased the buffer size and it seemed to help, but I thought the result of latency problems was distortion, clicks, or gapping - not note-ignoring.

    Note or Sound Dropouts

So, I was hoping I would have nothing to add to this thread, but apparently I was wrong. This note dropout thing is getting annoying now that I'm finally trying to lay down some tracks. I try to convert my MIDI output to wavs but it's useless as a track with the occasional missing kick or...

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

True! I wasn't trying to be sarcastic with my first post, just humorous. My mind quickly went to Ben Franklin holding glow sticks and sucking on a pacifier, and I chuckled...

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

I think I see what you mean. As I get more into it, I'll develop more of an intuition. Maybe I just need a little patience...

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

Nice! That would probably work too because Ban Franklin and Plato was hugely into EDM!

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

Yes. That's what I'm curious about.

    Finding Quotes for EDM-style Songs

I mainly play guitar and work on riffs and songs for hard rock or metal, but I also love working on electronic music as well now and then. My favorite styles are hard trance and dark drum n' bass. I'm working on a song now, and I decided that it needs some quotes to fill in a few blank areas...

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

I figured :) Thanks for the tips! If I have any further GPO questions, I'll start a new thread. I think delving into this further would steer this thread off-topic.

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

Yeah, I think it was in 2010 IIRC, which was about 2 years before I even heard about the site. I might later. Right now I've just learned a bunch of new stuff and I'm anxious to apply. :D I noticed that my bank-change commands had no effect! Way to mess with MIDI beginners Garritan! :p Oh...

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

Ok, so as far as knowing what control codes I can use depends on how good the documentation is for the synth in question. Or so it seems...

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

Ah... So I can't necessarily expect to assign any-old control code to a soft synth and expect it to have a cool effect. The synth manufacturer has to have their synth set up to respond to it, otherwise there's no effect, right?

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

So, I feel I have a better understanding with Programs/patches and banks. Now I'm trying to get a feel for control codes. I was messing around a little while ago and I set up my keyboard controller to have one of it's faders mapped to CC10 for panning. It was cool to see it work. It helps...

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

Wait... is it the synth or the DAW that chooses the numbering?

    The Basic Basics of MIDI

Ah! Thanks for all that! ...Wow this stuff can get pretty dense. It looks like Acid uses 0-127. I just selected "Trombone" which is 58 on Tweak's GM sound map, but it shows up as 57 in ACID.
