    Guitar Multi Effects Floor Processor?

For distortion I recently bought the Radial Engineering "Hot British" pedal. Easily the best distortion pedal I've owned. The distortion itself sounds great - saturated with harmonics and very crisp. Plus it has enough knobs and switches to sculpt your tone however you want.

Wow! Ashly CL52E, What a huge difference it has made.

I have an Ashly CLX-52 and I love it. Easily the best compressor in it's price range. I use it in my home studio. Mostly I use it to tame bass and vocals. Very smooth and transparent.

    Maximizing Time

So of course the creative juices aren't flowing constantly. But I still try to make time for my music anyway. Something that's been really helpful for me has been to tap into the technical when I'm not feeling creative. Whenever I get something new, whether it's hardware or software, I still...

    Record live audio from midi?

There is an option in ACID called "Real-Time Render". It will render the song at it's original tempo and the MIDI data will trigger your synth and play into the mix. So you can use a hardware synth. However it won't create a distinct audio track. There's a tutorial video from Sony that shows you...

    Goodbye, mother******s! (and Gary Busey)

I like the fun, slightly-smart-assy punk feel of that track. The vocals seemed a little buried, but for the most part the mix was good. I wish you good luck on finding a suitable place for your drums!

    Tone Caps

Oh yeah! Good idea! Neither do I. That's why I'm concerned about the caps affecting the tone regardless. Clever idea! But that's beyond me at this point.

    Tone Caps

So I'm doing my first ever pot change on a guitar, and I want to put in new caps for the tone knobs. I'm not great with electronics, but I was able to figure out that my original pots used the .047uF caps. I didn't know how much the caps affected tone so I did some searching. One site says that...

    Skyscraper [Cover]

There is! That's gonna be a challenge. I'll probably see what I can do with my regular guitar slide. I would like to cover some more recent Bad Religion songs. I know the guitar parts (minus the leads) and the three-part-harmonies for "Who We Are" which is a B-side from Punk-O-Rama 8, but no way...

    Skyscraper [Cover]

Yes! That's me. Unfortunately they're not real drums. It'll have to be that for a while yet. I would love to get an electronic drum kit but there's just no room in our apartment, so MIDI drums it is. I always loved that galloping beat that Bobby Schayer played. I even made one of my SR-16...

    Skyscraper [Cover]

That's a good idea. I actually tried boosting that very range you mentioned hoping to add some grit to the vocals, but you're right, it would just add harshness.

    Skyscraper [Cover]

Yeah, I pieced the drums together years ago, before I had any MIDI finesse. I need to go back to that. Glad the bass came out well! I knew there was something missing with the guitars... I think you're right. I know what you mean about the "grit" of the original vocals. I did actually try to...

    Skyscraper [Cover]

It was set to private. I thought one could listen to private tracks provided the URL was given :wtf:

    Skyscraper [Cover]

So this is a mostly finished cover of Bad Religion's "Skyscraper" from 1993's Recipe for Hate. The only thing I'd like to add to it would be to have my brother fill out the background harmonies. (He's interested in doing it, just incredibly busy lately.) I did my best to counteract the nasality...

    Hyena cover (Rancid)

Another good cover... I actually would add a touch more reverb to the drums, and also a bit of high band EQ boost to bring out the snare and hi-hat.

    Can't Say

Your mixes are getting progressively better however! With the third one I listened to, the mix sounded good, but it sounded like the bit-rate for the mp3 you uploaded must've been on the low side.

    "Difference of Two"

I usually do add a final reverb to my tracks but I didn't this time around... figures :p I just gave it another listen now that I got a night's sleep in between. Yeah, it seems like there's too big of a difference between the verse and chorus levels. I don't think I ever would have thought to...

    "Difference of Two"

The guitars and bass are real, the drums are MIDI (KitCore), and the synths are samples from a couple different ACID loop libraries. Yes, I did record everything into my DAW. I did insert a graphic EQ into my preamp but I found I still had to use software EQ to help it sit better. Otherwise it...

    Can't Say

I actually still have it in my CD collection! (And if you're interested, a good quality scan of the cover is on Album Art Exchange.) I always thought Scott Reynolds was their best singer and lyricist. As for the reverb, yeah, reverb for the whole song, or even try a couple different ones for...

    Can't Say

Your updated mix is very good! The only thing that strikes me about it is that everything feels very in-your-face. Have you tried adding some more reverb to space things out a bit? On a side note, that's a cool choice for a cover. ALL is already an obscure band as it is, and the song "Can't...

    "Difference of Two"

So I've been spending a lot of time re-recording my old songs, but I finally wanted to finish up something new I had sitting around. I was feeling nostalgic for some nineties industrial: Stabbing Westward, God Lives Underwater, Gravity Kills, etc. I ended up with this: I'm pretty happy with...
