    Finally done, some support needed!

I've never been there, so I'm not sure where we'll be playing. Coffeehouse sounds likely though. Fergie's is a pretty good venue. It's small, and last year it was packed...I hope there's room for everyone this time. I look forward to meeting you. Peace, Peter

    NOT Onstage...

Do you retain any contractual priveleges with respect to the songs made with your beats? I don't know much about the beat business, but perhaps you could reserve the right to distribute and promote yourself using those songs. That way you could give club owners this CD you already have...

    Finally done, some support needed!

Zip is a pretty unusual format to distribute music. Anything that requires more time than it takes to click on a link is going to get less attention. You want the music to be as accessible as it can be. People will be reluctant to listen if they have to first download and install WinZip. I...

    Rate my bands' site!

The 'Adopt a highway' text that follows the cursor around is annoying... I would also try and use a bit more color and/or imagery. The site is easy to navigate but it isn't much for looks. The text on the bio page would be better if it were separated in paragraphs.

CD cover - how to make an impression?

I think that question is best answered with a question. What do you want the album cover to convey? Its design shouldn't solely be based on what will attract the most attention, but what will attract the right kind of attention. There's no formula, but I think all the elements you mentioned...

    New Piano Instrumental

Glad you liked it! Haven't heard of David Gates. I like both James Taylor and Cat Stevens a lot, though I can't call myself a devoted fan of either. The piano track is called "The Last Glorious Mile," and is the second to last on the list at http://www.poemadept.com/help.htm Thanks, Peter

    1) My old band had those CD's replicated through a company here in Ann Arbor called World Class Tapes. They do good business, so I'm having the new album replicated through them as well. 2) I remember someone in the UK asking me for a CD too, but I think they never sent me their address...

    New Piano Instrumental

If the style doesn't suit you that's no problem...stuff like this doesn't seem to fly well at all on this board. That's something I'd like to delve more into, but not now. Thanks for the feedback about the tone. I wanted it to convey space, and a sense of standing still while everything moves...

    New Piano Instrumental

Hey everyone, this is my first time recording a track like this. I used a friend's upright piano and put 2 condensers on the soundboard in the back. The house made a lot of noise so recording took forever, but once I had a good take the mixing was fairly straightforward. I wanted to get some...

My song is moving UP fast on SoundClick charts

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm curious how many plays/downloads are needed to crack the top 100. Back in the infancy of mp3.com, one of my band's songs made it up to number 12 or 13 on the 'jam' list, but it had only been played a few dozen times. Um, I feel like I jerk...

For items under one pound, you're better off using first class mail. Media Mail starts at $1.42 and takes FOREVER. CD's are light enough (a full package including jewel case, 8 panel insert, and the bubble mailer is under 6 ounces) that you can send them first class for $1.06. Delivery takes...

    Bundle discount?

On last year's tour we had a deal where people could get my 3 song sampler and my brother's book for 10 bucks. It was only 1 dollar off the normal price, but tons of people went for it. You could argue that they may have bought both anyways, but I think the selling point was the nice round...

They're eco-lite mailers made by Polyair packaging...I don't remember which dimensions I bought, either the 7 x 7.5 or 7.25 x 8. I found them on ebay from this guy: http://www.mailersandmore.com They shipped quickly and they have good rates, especially in bulk. Stupidly, I didn't buy from...

    anyone know how to copywrite?

You should record at whatever rate your compyter is fast enough to permit. Unless you're SERIOUSLY lacking processor speed, I would recommend 44.1 kHz. Then again, I'm not particularly knowledgeable about this stuff. There was a post in the Newbie forum just recently about sampling...

Not yet. My self-imposed deadline is to have it ready for mastering on April 5th, and then ready to turn in for printing either that day or the next. That will give me the 2 weeks I need before the tour starts (plus a few days just in case). Of the songs I'm putting on the album, I have 6...
