    Changing tempo mid-song

I like to use a click track or metronome when I record to keep an even tempo throughout a song, but there are several songs that I'm recording now for which the tempo seems to naturally change a bit from verse to chorus. In one song, for example, when I play each part on my guitar along with...

    Article on self-promotion

I don't have a program to change into pdf, but you might be able to find one online. If not, give me your e-mail address and I can just e-mail the text of it to you.

    Article on self-promotion

Hey kids, I wrote this brief article on self-promotion a little while back. It wasn't published, so I thought I'd at least share it with the hr.com crowd. Enjoy! Peter

    shopping cart

I would think so...not even sure if myspace allows it. You might have to build your own website to be able to sell merchandise yourself. If you're serious about making music, I strongly believe that the first and most crucial step toward self-promotion is to get your own website.

    shopping cart

I use paypal on my website. It has worked fine for me. They have fairly clear instructions online for how to insert the script into your own website design. They also don't charge too much (something like 35 cents for a 12 dollar transaction). See my store at www.poemadept.com for an example.

FS: Rode NT-2A's(single or matched pair)

Why is it the price of both mics together more than twice as much as the price of one alone?

    Health insurance for independent musicians

This is fairly tangential to home recording, but it's a question I've been struggling with for a while and thought other people might find useful... I've been making enough money as a musician to support myself for the last 3 years; enough to pay all the essential bills and live in reasonable...

    How does humidity affect strings?

12-15 for a set of strings is on the high end in my opinion. I suppose 4-5 is cheap and 7-8 is moderate; my intent was to clarify that they weren't expensive.

    How does humidity affect strings?

I changed the strings on one of my guitars about three weeks ago, and then hadn't played it much since. It has been dormant on a stand in a 1st floor room of my house here in Michigan during a relatively warm and humid spell. Today I went to play it and found that the tone was dull and the...

New song - comments and suggestions appreciated!

What kind of percussion do you hear? I am reluctant to add a set because I think it would detract from the folky feel of it, but I can't think of what would fit well rhythmically. Do you think it needs low end? An upright bass or a cello? Maybe an electric bass? Anyone ideas for a name...

New song - comments and suggestions appreciated!

Hi kids, I'm working on a new song right now and I just finished the first mix. It still needs more instrumentation, but I wanted to get some early feedback on the composition and sound and some suggestions of where to take it from here. You can listen to it here...

Using the same voice for melody and harmony

I'll post this in the mp3 forum as well, but I thought I'd mention it here to show you the results... You can listen to the song I'm working on here (it's called "Anne" for now): www.poemadept.com/Recording/recording.htm I recorded the harmony on a cheapo dynamic in a different spot in the...

Using the same voice for melody and harmony

Okay, thanks for the replies! I'll definitely change up the mic and use different compression and eq, though I don't know if I can change the room. Perhaps changing the position in the room will also be effective? I've also heard that vocal harmonies blend in better if the consonants are...

Using the same voice for melody and harmony

In a lot of my recordings I have used my own voice for the harmonies as well as the melodies, especially when I can't find anyone else to sing them for me. I sometimes worry that it's difficult to distinguish one voice singing two parts layered over one another, as the tone and timbre will be...

Fender Passport PA system (with mics, cords, stands) - like new!

Hi everyone! I'm selling a Fender Passport PD250 in excellent condition. Thought I'd post it here before I try ebay. I bought this system for a tour I just finished on the west coast. I used it for about 15 shows, and then left it with a friend in Seattle because I couldn't bring it home...
