Mixing in mono...it always sounds like crap

of course things will clash when mixing in mono. Its the same thing as mixing with everything panned dead center! its all gonna clash! You can EQ all instruments so they all have thier own "Sonic space" or own "designated frequencies".....but when you flip the switch to stereo youll find all...

    Recording Bass...Suggestions?

most DI bass sounds arent that thick.....you may want to check out a bass modeling amp like IK Multimedia AMPEG, and use that along with the DI sound to blend them together. for EQ, i like to add some 50Hz, and also add some 2k. Maybe roll off the 20hz and below. Compression is a typical 4:1 or...

    Panning Question

i did some tests on recent pop-rock songs, and they all seem to share the same panning format.... Snare, kick drum, bass guitar, main vocals - panned center toms - panned around 50-60% left/right hi hat - panned about 65-70% left or right over heads - panned 75-80% left/right backing guitars -...

    recording electric guitar---2 methods:

i have owned/used the POD so many times......i actually had it part of my main rig at one point. But then the day hit me.........I wanted to try out a tube amp and see what the fuss was all about. then the day came when my POD was buried in dust and lost in a pile of "toys" in my closet. ok...

    hows this cover?

the acoustics were actually quite easy.... i just recieved a new CAD Trion 7000 Ribbon mic, so i used this song as a test for it. I had it about 6-8" away from my acoustic, pointed right where the neck and body meet. Added a lil' post eq afterwards (added some 7k to jangle it up, and around...

OK, does this mix sound better now?

no amp sim....thats a Carvin Legacy Tube amp. The drums are Toontrac EZdrummer software. Thanks for the comment!, im digging the song too......BUT.... i noticed the bass guitar is almost non-existant, and the lead guitar is just a hair to loud. Ill be posting a new mix on this song soon.......
