Why No Love for CAD Trion 7000 Ribbon Mic?

Mines certainly not bright...but works awesome on my guitar cab. If i use the backside of the mic, it may be slightly brighter.....but not really noticeable. i wouldnt call it bright mic....but certainly is warm and balanced sounding. A perfect mic to pair with a SM57 when dual mic'ing my cabs.

Blue Sky MediaDesk vs Rubicon 5a vs...

personaly, i dont care about brands., what kind of tweeters, or what the cones are made of. Which ever Monitors you get, you will have to adjust to them, and learn to mix on them. My rules of thumb to picking monitors are...... - wide frequency responce (at least 60hz-20k, but if it can get...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

perfect! after readin up on the HEDD, seems like the Nomad Factory plug i was looking into pretty much is similar. Both units have a tape emulator, as well as 2 tube sounds to blend in as well.

Should I hold back on compression?

now that i just read your first post, i see your now talking mostly about the volume? nothing to do with the mixing, but maybe the volume when done in mastering stage? Again, even when i attempt to master at home, ill once again have up to 4 commercial songs on different tracks, and watch the...

Should I hold back on compression?

i dont think its a bad idea. I actually do it on all my stuff. Ill have 2 additonal tracks in my DAW where ill load in 2 pro mixed/mastered songs, and keep them muted. When im all done mixing my song, ill toggle back and forth between my song and the other 2 reference songs just for fun to see...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

i guess what started this whole crazy search for a tape emulator plugin was because of a video i saw online.... i cant for the life of me find it again though. This recording engieneer showed how he was mic'ing up a marshall cab and a fender amp, and then checking phase on the main console...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

its not harshness.....its so darn clean and crisp. I dont think i have a problem with my preamps or converters (Soundtracs TOPAZ analog mix console for preamps, ran into a Presounus firebox for conversion). I guess im just trying to warm it up a bit so it doesnt sound so digital. I thought a...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

ok, so i demo'd 2 plugins so far. The "Nomad factory tube/tape emulator", and the "Voxengo tapebus" I tried both on a single track instrument, and also on the master buss/whole mix.....just to see how they reacted in the scenarios. on a single track/instrument....both plugs were pretty...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

I have the Vintage Warmer, it came with My Sonar 8 program. Its decent....but i find its more of a glorifed compressor, rather than trying to emulate tape sounds. I like using it on my drum buss. BUt im more trying to find a simple plugin that i can slap on individual tracks, and not buss it.

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

i know my stuff aint perfect. Hell, about 95% of the people on this board is in the same boat. We struggle to get a somewhat professional sound at home, without all the expensive gear that big studios use. Its the ever after tone chasing to perfect our sounds....... even if it means one plugin...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

im sorry, your right. that was a bias'd bold statement. what i should have said was... "Im cursed by my digital DAW and my lack of knowledge ....cause it sounds too clean and i want to thicken it up by emulating a analog tape sound." there...was that better?

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

so does anyone know whats the preferd ips (15 or 30) for a modern day recording (rock genre) on a tape recorder? Seems like all the researching im doing shows that 15ips as a significant bump in he lows (80hz and below). But alot of people are prefering the sound of 15ips over 30ips? i know...

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

on a side note - I see alot of these plugins have a 15ips or 30ips settings. Becuase i have no idea about tape recorders....what is the difference between these 2 settings? what does one sound like over the other? is there a preference?

Tape emulation in a digital DAW

i mean, people always rave about how great tape sounds. The nice warmth....the "excitement" it adds when pushed....etc. Ive always was cursed with "ultra crisp/clean" recordings cause i record straight into my DAW (using an analog mix console for preamps and a presonus firebox for the ADA...

Tracking guitars, the logical way for rock? (poll)

guitar solos.....easy. Its just a single take/track and pan it center or slightly off center. (for the most part) im more wondering how rhythm guitars are done now a days....and how many people are stacking take after take, track after track and layering the bejesus out of them
