half, much like blue bear said, you should probably send it out for mastering..... unless you're doing these songs just for the hell of it or whatever..... but even then, you'd learn a lot watching the mastering engineer....... but if you're not going to send the songs out, you should at least...

I do this every now and then, but mainly for effect...... and even then, my "dry" vocal track has a very, very soft plate reverb on it... and then I end up panning my quite wet reverb track to one side or the other. doesn't work very well in a cluttered mix, but in a sparse little song, it works...

you wanna talk about over-compression? creed's album "weathered"........ fucking ridiculous. you have parts in songs where it's just scott and an acoustic guitar, and those parts are LOUDER relative to when the full band comes in....... talk about bass-ackwards priorities! I knew compression...

I have a VC6Q, a great little rack unit. The trick with these puppies is to do things with it you would never be told to do otherwise (i.e. drive the input of this thing well into the clipping light, etc....). When I first used it, I was really tame with it and all, and it didn't sound anywhere...
