littledog.... believe me, my concern has nothing to do with people hurting my ego.. I'm the first person to belittle my knowledge, so when someone corrects me, I'm rather happy about it... because it usually means my sound will benefit because of it. however, the concern I have is that I...

I hope my incessant self-deprecation is keeping you amused. :D

    Compression

I see...... this is why I try and not post too much "information"....... I kind of have an inferiority thing, so I'm always worried I'll try and pass off something that's horribly wrong as something that's right.... I hope I haven't done this already........ :(

    Compression

maybe I'm taking that thread out of context, or it's because I always try to look for the good in people....... but even though it seems tyler is quite the dumbass, it appears in that thread that you're antagonizing him bruce... and then he goes into that "I'll trace your ip" bullshit, which is...

    Compression

tex...... I have a fifteen year old sister, so I get my fair share of today's pop/rap/rock music...... and YES, the albums are just as compressed as they are on the radio. personally, I can't stand listening to the radio. the compression thing is one thing, but the sound quality is just...

    Mastering Software recommendation

half, much like blue bear said, you should probably send it out for mastering..... unless you're doing these songs just for the hell of it or whatever..... but even then, you'd learn a lot watching the mastering engineer....... but if you're not going to send the songs out, you should at least...

    reverb

I do this every now and then, but mainly for effect...... and even then, my "dry" vocal track has a very, very soft plate reverb on it... and then I end up panning my quite wet reverb track to one side or the other. doesn't work very well in a cluttered mix, but in a sparse little song, it works...

    Compression

you wanna talk about over-compression? creed's album "weathered"........ fucking ridiculous. you have parts in songs where it's just scott and an acoustic guitar, and those parts are LOUDER relative to when the full band comes in....... talk about bass-ackwards priorities! I knew compression...

I guess MY keyboard's the only one with balls, then. :D

something i cant get a grasp on....answer if you can.

wait, I'm a little confused....... this "line/mic" knob you're talking about....... is this like a gain knob on a preamp/mixer? cause if so, shouldn't you NOT be running keyboards through it? keyboards put out a line level signal, so you should either run those through a line input, OR if this...

    Joemeek

I have a VC6Q, a great little rack unit. The trick with these puppies is to do things with it you would never be told to do otherwise (i.e. drive the input of this thing well into the clipping light, etc....). When I first used it, I was really tame with it and all, and it didn't sound anywhere...

    Pedro the Lion

I'm not entirely sure which section this belongs in, but..... Have any of you heard Pedro the Lion's new cd, Control? Man, Dave Bazaan really learned how to play drums on this album. It's some really great songwriting too, a really well done concept and execution. The thing that bugs me about...

was I brainwashed into preferring the "analog" sound?

I don't get why people do this..... if you so desperately want the analog thing, track onto 2", and then put it onto pro tools..... avoid the extra conversion.

    Rnc

yes, you can have two signals running through it, however, they will both be governed by the same compression controls...

Mixing Cliches (You know, that overdone crap)
