    First try at slide guitar

hey bob, knock yourself out. it sounds like a very cool idea, however, I'm not quite sure I'd be able to do it. I'm not entirely aware of how to make it happen, and even if I could, knowing me, it would end up sounding rather comical and silly, which is not what I want for this song. I'm...

    First try at slide guitar

I noticed something else guys..... the mp3 conversion seems to lower the volume of the slide, for some reason.... the volume is just fine in the original .wav...... I guess I'll just have to compensate. jamal, the click echo is just from when I hit the frets with the slide, and since I have a...

also, just to toot my own horn, I'd like to say that I really like the sound I got on the rythym guitar.

    First try at slide guitar

hey guys, thanks for replying. first, let me explain my motives about why I did it how I did it. I first ran the slide through cool edit's FFT filter, with a not-quite telephone eq (I used the Telephone Bandpass as a base, and then modified it from there). Then I compressed it a little with RCL...

    First try at slide guitar

Hey guys, it's me again. I don't really post here (in the mixing clinic), mainly because I've never really recorded anything to a sound quality I would be comfortable with posting. But last march, I was messing around in my dorm room with a pretty basic chord progression, and my room mate had a...

    Volume of final mixes.

also, on the matter of percieved loudness, don't forget to get the lows out of instruments that don't need it.

    omni users qustion

well, if you have the correct cable (either 1/8" or 1/4", going to two 1/4"), you can plug the cd player into line inputs 3 and 4.... personally, I would just put the cd in the computer and play it that way instead of going through the trouble of hooking up the cd player.

What is "cool" about cool edit?

You can play the hardest version ever of Pong on it!

    my bluemax compressor SEEMS quiet

adolescents, this isn't exactly a big reply to your problem or anything, but I just wanted to state...... if you are using T-Racks, ALWAYS (and I mean it) keep the overload on the limiter at its highest (+5.3). This will gain some extra dBs in some cases. course, I wouldn't use T-Racks in the...

Mastering: Compression/Limiting makes my drums disappear

I'm a big advocate of compressors like the C1, because they have sidechains that allow you to modify what the compressor sees. Put the sidechain to highpass at about 850-1k or so, and you can get a nice fat bottom without a huge amount of pumping and breathing. This isn't the end all be all...

    Temporal Harmonic Alignment

regardless of what buzzwords they attach to it, I have faith in M-Audio, as every piece of equipment I have from them has been a good investment, especially at their price point. Perhaps the TAMPA is where their moment in the sun wanes, but even so, they're innocent until proven guilty in my book.

    Studio Projects VTB-1 Pricewatch...

hey, no harm, no foul. I hope you don't think I was being condescending or anything. it's just that there ARE people who will post about having troubles with noise, and then they say they're running mic -> compressor -> pre.... so I just HAD to be sure.

    Studio Projects VTB-1 Pricewatch...

I would just like to add, alan, to the beginning of his post, that putting a limiter or compressor before the signal even gets to the preamp will effectively make it sound awful, as it's nowhere near line level by that time.

    my RNC wont compress enough

do you have the release set too fast? it might be jumping cause the volume around the threshold keeps going up, down, up, down.. I know compression settings are worthless, but on something like the RNC, if you put all the knobs at the 12 o' clock position (straight up), that should be a good...

    monotonous recordings..

I used to have those problems, but then I started switching my signal chain around and using different techniques, and, surprisingly, the problem went away.
