In the windows settings.
I think it depends a bit on the Windows version but in XP go to the control panel and then so Sounds and Audio Devices.
In the audio settings you can then select the AP as your default soundcard.
GM is general midi, right? The Audiophile won't play those. It doesn't...
The only USB midi interface that I've owned, a Midiman 4x4 (sold it because the midi interface on my soundcard is enough for me) worked flawlessly for me..
I don't expect many to have tried both side by side.
But based on reputation I'd pick RME every time. Both for sound quality and stability.
I've yet to read a bad thing about RME (pro stuff) while I hardly know anything about Ego-Sys.
Just my two cents.
I disagree.
24 bits resolution is very useful, even for homerecordists when using plugins and/or mixing inside the computer. It's all a matter of rounding errors.
In this day and age, don't settle for less than 24 bits.
The j-station puts out a 24 bits signal by the way.
I've hooked mine up...
Firewire 400 runs at 400Mb/s
PCI runs at 133MB/s
400 megabits per second is less than 133 megabytes per second.
No, Brzilian isn't wrong per se.
PCI does 133MB/s but with overhead a maximum of around 100MB/s is to be expected.
Firewire 800 runs at 800Mb/s which will probably result in a real...
Well, it also depends on what you send into the soundcard (tell us what you use).
It also depends on what you use for monitoring (tell us what you use).
What struck me most was the difference in noiselevels when I went from an sblive to an audiophile. The sblive is a coffeegrinder compared to...
The m-audio audiophile doesn't have onboard midi playback capabilities like consumer soundcards (read: soundblasters) but apart from that, my audiophile replaced my soundblaster live for everything. I use it for recording but also playing games, dvd playback, etc. Flawless.
I'd say don't bother about soundcards with built-in preamps, especially in that pricerange.
An M-Audio 2496 audiophile soundcard (99,-) and an M-Audio DMP-3 dual preamp (159,- or less).
That would give you a great homerec combo.
I use generic, unbranded DDR ram in this computer (1x512MB) which has worked just fine for me this last year. Memorybrands don't say me shit.
But what do I know? I'm just another IT specialist.
I agree. For a recording newbie like me, the B3 is a very nice mic. Also used mine mostly as omni or figure 8.
For vocals, I have other mics that I pick first though.
Use your ears!
Really, there is a huge difference between the M and S setting and you'll hear in an instant which has more bass than the other.
