Hmm, strange problem with new RMG SM468 tapes...

I don't know any more. I think Cory or Ethan or Dave would know better. It's just that when I see a Fostex and the way it's laid out it certainly closely emulates a Tascam unit.

Hmm, strange problem with new RMG SM468 tapes...

You have not had a good Tascam experience. Didn't Tascam make the base Fostex units?

After reading Thrust's issue it all now really clicks!!! What a bummer.

Lubricating your tape heads surfaces. Why would you ever do this?

I did a photospectral analysis of his lubricant. It appears to be "sex wax". Makes sense since he was using it on the "head"!!! Should work great.

Tascam 122 Mk II play speed problem

Sounds like a belt issue especially if it has not been used in a while. Make sure to get the counter belt as well. Clean in there well with isopropyl alcohol and Qtips. Contact Bob here. he has them and will get them out quickly = Tape Deck Belts: Tascam If you would like the belt change...

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

So do I. Went through whole unit yesterday and nothing seems out of line, and while that's no absolute at least there does not appear to be any visible evidence of a toasted part.

Now that's odd but it worked. My poor record issue is deeper in contect than this!

Tascam Series 70 4 track on 1/2" and recap

Cory gave good advice. By recapping the power supply you should notice cleaner detail, and for sure the machine will require calibration. Maybe you could do the upgrades and then have someone locally calibrate the unit.

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

So what did you do then to correct your record problem?

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

What is the Function A PCB and where is it in manual? I'll look that up to see if similar to 48.

Tascam MSR-16 won't record or playback

Seems this is the problem of the month with Tascam equipment! Plays back pre-recorded OK but will not properly record! I have my 48 apart for the same reason and recapping the power supply hoping it's a voltage supply problem. If not maybe a main board prob. Very odd this should happena nd...

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

Lytics age and get noisy. Huge problem in audio circuits and especially in loudspeaker crossovers. Power supply caps take a beating over time and the heat does not help either. So replacements produce great results. I am doing a ton of cap replacements on more than just P/S's. Redoing every...

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

It does erase and record but the record is barely audible! So I was after recapping the P/S anyway and felt this was a good way to go to isolate that issue, and then I'll have a clean power source. If not the problem then as Ethan suggested I'll have to check main board. It is very unlikely...

Tacam 58 won't record on any channels

I have the same problem with my 48. It plays back previously recorded OK, but upon new record it is extremely faint across all 8 channels. So it's erasing and recording but barely! I removed the two OSC boards and they look fine-no obvious signs of trouble. Re-installed and did a test record...
