    Nylon String Amp

Just a final follow-up - a local store had a Roland Jazz Chorus 50 that I tried, really liked and bought used for $200. I tried MANY amps including some of the "acoustic"models before deciding on this one. The messages about Roland amps on this site led me to try it.

    Rolland Jazz Amp

The amp is a Roland Jazz Chorus 50. I took my Country Gentleman back to the store, tried it out and bought it. It has wonderful, clean tone with the Gent and I like it with my piezo nylon string too. The chorus effect is nice but the overall tone and low background noise level of the amp...

    Rolland Jazz Amp

Does anyone have experience with the Rolland Jazz Amp? A local store has a used one in pretty good shape. Many seem to be pleased with the Cube Rollands and I'd like to have something simple and clean, no distortion etc needed. Thanks.

In looking at the package for the D'Addario set that I have, the bass E string is only 43 gauge which seems awfully light. I like to play bass with my thumb and get carried away on some passages and snap the string against the fingerboard. My touch is generally pretty light to be doing that...

That Clipper sure is nice. Something about a big guitar that allows you to feel some vibration through the soundbox is magic. How's the action? Speaking of KC, a few years ago, there used to be a nice little restaurant/night club up town that featured jazz players. Is it still there? We had...

Thanks, I'll look around for Saverez. My touch is light and the non-wound strings last me a long time anyway. Iwill take your advice and not put flat wound strings on for bass. It's always better to ask first. With 100 million guitar players out there, someone has tried everything by now.

Thanks Light. I was thinking about using fairly light gauge strings but have heard other horror stories about damage from heavier gauge strings. I don't know the market well enough to know what's available. I'm past the stretching phase but hate the tone of the strings I have on. I like...

    Nylon Strings

I just re-strung my recently purchased guitar with DeAddario strings and it sounds like a Telecaster on steroids with lots of finger noise. I don't know what the factory put on but I wish I had 'em back. What strings are you using for nice, mello bass? Have any of you experimented with...

I recently looked at new Gretsch guitars in a local shop and think they're way over priced. Just because Gibsons are out of sight doesn't mean everyone should be. I think I remember that Gretsch has them made in Asia now. The last new Gent I remember trying was in 1973 and I wasn't impressed...

I play all fingers now, but used a pick for most rock & some jazz stuff. I can play Atkins but don't often. To me, the worst kind of comment was "he sounds just like ______." Like most players, I've grabbed stuff from just about everyone I've ever heard and liked but always tried to change it...

If you like road warriors, this one would do. It took a lot of rubbing to get the nicotine off to make it shine a little again(notice how yellow the bindings are?). I'm living proof that second hand smoke won't kill you, at least not fast. I quit the road in 1980 and haven't used it much...

    Country Gentleman

People tended to love or hate them. Many complained that the pickups didn't have the gain of a Les Paul etc, but with the refrigerator size amps we used to use I never thought that was valid. In my rock & roll days I used a little linear booster (LPB1) with an Acoustic 6/10 amp and could slice...

    Nylon String Amp

Thanks guys. I'll go have a look and a listen to the pre-amp option. Are any of you familiar with the Korg AX10? I saw it advertised in a magazine and Korg claims a lot of nice acoustic effects are available with it.

    Nylon String Amp

We play lengthy cantatas and I need the freedom to squirm around that the piezo allows. Being close-micd for that long could lead to early retirement for my chiropractor. Our church sanctuary is large with good acoustics so our pa system didn't need and doesn't have reverb. The only way I...

    Country Gentleman

It helps a lot. My muffler pads are split/black. They've dryed out and are turning to dust. The serial # is on the plate. My pickups are 2892371s. Engineers used to scoff at it back in the 70's when the Les Paul was the only "real" guitar but its tone, action and appearance have always suited...

    Nylon String Amp

I use a nylon string guitar with a piezo pickup and have been playing it through our church pa system. Although our pa is a good one with lots of power, I don't like the flat sounding tone of my guitar plugged in straight and would like to buy a small and LIGHTWEIGHT amp to mike through the...

    Country Gentleman

I've owned and used a Gretsch Country Gentleman since 1970. I bought it used and am hoping that some of you might help me find the year it was made (serial #77749). It was made before Gretsch began opening up the f holes and does not have Chet's name on the pickguard. Thanks.
