    Headphone miniplugs ARRGG

Don't give up so easily. First off, that high flexibility wire CAN be soldered. It's a lot easier to do if you use a gob of flux before touching your solder to the connection. Don't rely on the stuff that comes in the core of the solder itself. Second, if you have good joints ( solder joints )...

    Monitors and Cats

How about covering them when they aren't in use ? You could put a box or a milk crate over them so the cats couldn't get at them. I once had a problem with a cat getting up on a shelf that had breakable items on it. At someone's suggestion, I put several mouse traps down, NO WAIT THERE'S MORE...

Help with taming noisy palm mutings

I'm not 100% sure about this, but the Metal Zone pedal doesn't have a speaker simulator on it, does it? If not, that could be part of your problem.

I'm divorced....... I guess that answers that question, eh?

    amp question

Oh, one more thing dude.... Don't be too concerned about those wattage ratings, they can be very deceiving. There really aren't any standards that govern how those numbers are generated. Different manufactuers use different methods. I can tell you that a 30 watt Mesa will bury that 65 watt Fender.

    amp question

If you're mainly doing punk and metal stuff you'll probably end up with a pedal no matter which of these two you pick. I agree with you that the Marshall has better distortion than the Fender but, Marshall valve state amps still don't overdrive as well as Marshall tube amps. I think that, if...

Is the ADAT Studio Pack a "Good" deal?

I bought one, and it really wasn't a bad deal. The board is okay, not great but it works well with the LX20. The ADAT and the board are probably the only pieces that you'll use long term though. The compressor that comes with it is virtually useless, I've already replaced it. The reverb has some...

    wavs for me to mix

Actually, I have a cable going from the computer to my board already. I only use it for listening to other peoples posts though. I could just switch it over to run from the board instead of to the board, but the sound card in this laptop isn't exactly top notch. Since I don't have good hardware...

    wavs for me to mix

Hey Eddie, Since I don't record with my computer (I use ADAT), I don't have any multi-track stuff for you to play with but if you want practice making a noisy recording of a tinny guitar sound good, I have one for you to try. I recorded a short acoustic piece ( not orig.) using the built in mic...

    BOO!

Well, I guess I don't feel too bad for not being able to count a monster time like that one. I suppose if I want to howl like that, I'll have to scare up the cash to re-vamp my system for MIDI, witch of course will require me to learn a whole newt echnology.

    BOO!

Wow, I think you certainly captured the spirit of the holiday. It makes me want to get into MIDI 'cause I could NEVER play a time signature like that one. I tried to count it out in my head, but couldn't quite get it. So.... what time is it in ?

    How To Record Chunky Guitars

When I had this problem, I took a simplistic approach. I have the usual array of stomp boxes and multi effect units that all guitarists have but, when I thought about what I was trying to do it was pretty simple- I wanted to get the sound of a big, overdriven tube amp. So, guess what....I use a...

    muffled guitar

For a clean electric sound, I usually go direct into my board rather than through my amp. Your right, the compressor probably isn't the problem but I replaced my nano-compressor within 2 weeks of buying the Alesis studio pack. Poor research on my part :-( If you don't want to go direct, try...

    A new one

If you do pick one up, I'd suggest "MoonMadness". It's probably the most accessible one in their catalog. If you really like that one, then try some of the others.

    A half-baked idea...

I have to admit that I'm more than just a little curious to see what your idea of a "good bar" is S8-N. Would we like, have to bring our own goats ???

    newbie guitarist buys new guitar...

Don't worry, that's normal when you're first learning. There's this thing called "muscle memory" that you have to develop. Just concentrate on getting the chords to sound right by using the proper techique(you are using the proper technique, right ?) and eventually your hands will "remember"...

    Phillips 760 cdrw

I was thinking of purchasing the same model, until a friend who works at a local music store told me they weren't going to be carrying them anymore. The problem wasn't with their performance but rather with the number that were coming back broken. [This message has been edited by loudnaybor...

    New Bass

First off, you CAN get some pretty heavy sounds out of a Fender bass. But if you really want to get heavy, then you're probably going to want at least a 5 string, the 6 string necks start getting a little too wide in my opinion. Since money isn't a factor, I'll tell you about a bass I tried out...

Just starting, but looking to eventually go corporate

Gonna take a shot at the big time, eh? Well... if you're going to be signing artists to record, there's a whole bunch of stuff you're gonna need... Like a good lawyer, but that's probably not the kind of info you're looking for :-) There's a lot of knowledge lurking around this site, but you'll...
