    Mic Preamp and Drum Recordings

Agreed. I like them a lot too. There are a lot of good bands coming out of Denver and the scene there is sort of blowing up at the moment. They are getting a lot of attention and it wont be long before they get some national attention I would suspect. I haven't talked to them in a while but...

new to the game... need some direction

This is gonna sound a little strange but if I were recording hiphop/rap and hed 200$ for a mic... I would go to ebay and get a shure 55sh and whatever preamp I could get for 100$. I think the 55sh would work well because of it's mid and low response. It doesn't have the nasty sharp highs that a...

simulating crack/pop of a record player

The Isotope vinyl plugin is pretty nice. It has some different settings that allow you to determine the type of click/pop that you get. It has a randomizer so that it sounds real and not just like a repeating loop.

How do you handle the Know-it-all musician?

Hey, my drummer is one of these guys and he routinely makes things up if he doesn't know about the subject at hand. I listened to him talk for a half hour the other night about what a patch bay does and probably 75% of it was pure fiction. At some point you just let them talk and then do what...

    Mic Preamp and Drum Recordings

I'd actually never even consider the idea of spending more than 500$ for a preamp for my home studio. The idea of that is sort of ridiculous. Some friends of mine actually used old software, a couple 57s and MXLs condensors, and they took their time and recorded the tracks well... sent it off...

    Mic Preamp and Drum Recordings

Yeah, that's what I mean about it being versatile. We play completely different styles of music and you managed to make a clean, good sounding recording with an Aphex 107. I thought it was extremely easy to dial in the sound that I wanted with it. Nice example.

    Recording tracks..What first?

I think you nailed it. There aren't too many bands that go to the studio to record who have session quality drummers who have been trained by playing with a metronome or went to school for drumming. It doesn't mean they aren't good drummers but just that they will probably not give theri best...

    Recording tracks..What first?

I don't know if anyone has said this yet... but it is very hard to find a drummer (even great drummers) who can play along with music that was set to a click track and have it be perfect. It is much easier for the other musicians to play along with the drummer. Even the best drummers don't have...

    Alt Rock guitar sound

Yeah, I am getting ready to track some guitar and was going to give this a try since I hadn't seen anyone do it. I'm glad to hear it's been done successfully before. It seems like it might add some lower end to the track and keep it from being, as you said, dry and basically just a direct...

    Mic Preamp and Drum Recordings

Thanks. I'll definitely give that a try.

    Getting a huge guitar sound.

I don't think the guitar sounds too bad. The solo is a bit thin sounding. More than anything the drums are too loud in the mix. All in all, I like it (especially the name).

    Getting a huge guitar sound.

You can get pretty much the same thing if you use a stereo sample delay in your insert. Most software will have this build in. If you offset the left track from the right track slightly 128ms - 256ms it will add some girth to the track. Most guitar players are good enough to play the same thing...

    Alt Rock guitar sound

Hey Miroslav, When you back the mic off that much, do you ever use a blanket or anything to create kind of a tunnel like you might do for a kick drum? I'm just wondering if that is somehting anyone has tried. I am not a huge fan of my room acoustics. ryan

    Alt Rock guitar sound

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. I am not sure if that is my issue but it is worth trying. Thanks.

    Alt Rock guitar sound

I'm curious about that statement. My amps are open back DeVilles. How would you rectify that in recording? When I have gone to professional studios they don't do anything special to my amps but they are using much better mics in a much larger room. So, is there a way to place the mic or the amp...

    Mic Preamp and Drum Recordings

Yeah, I read a lot of negative stuff about them but then I wen to ElectronicMusician and read their review and they said that while it colored the signal it did so favorably. Now, that's all opinion but I think it sounds good. I also think the tube does affect the signal. I think most of it...

    I hate reverb.

I have two Fender Hot Rod DeVilles both with spring reverbs in them and while they never go above 3 they don't sound too bad. Aren't most guitar amp reverbs "spring reverbs"?

    Alt Rock guitar sound

I feel your pain. I am mainly a guitar player and singer and I am never happy with the sound I get in my home studio. I just posted on a different thread about a mic pre that I picked up cheap that is outperforming it's price by a lot. It's an Aphex 107 and I am going to try it on my guitars...

    Alt Rock guitar sound

The preamp in an FP10 isn't really that great. If your sound is really thin, you might look at that. These are preamps that came with the interface and are fine for clarity and increased signal but they don't add any warmth or color to the track. If you are stuck using those, you can always...

How to play over recording, without recording new track on Pro Tools LE 7.4 Mac?

You can also just use the input monitor rather than the record enable. That should alow you to hear what is currently on the track as well as what the mic is picking up.
