Hi guys I've been interested in doing some recording, I plan on playing guitar and use software to do drums. I have no clue where to start at all and would need very basic information. Been playing guitar for 12 years as a hobby, I'd like to take it up a notch and try something new.

I'm confused bud, is there supposed to be information here or something cause all I see is an email address.

Tons of good info here, I'll make a list of stuff I want to get and see if you guys think they're good or not.

Ok here's the list

Presonus Audiobox

Cheap price looks perfect for a single musician.

KRK5G2 Monitors

decent price was recommended by Tweakheadz

M-Audio Axiom Midi Keyboard
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDOAXIOM25

mainly used for drums nice price

Sonar Home Studio

Not too sure about this but I like the price tag.

I'm debating if I'm going to mic my amp or play direct with a preamp at this time.

Got the KRK Rokit 8 G2 myself, like those, though do not underestimate the fact, that u need a sub.

Depends on what you need the keyboard for. Uhm, can't say anything about the sonar thing, and the presonus should work for now I guess, it all depends on what you want to do...

You may or may not need a sub. What kind of music are you wanting to record? What's your room like?

I'd recommend you take a look at Reaper for your DAW. You can download a fully functional copy for free. It has no restrictions on it whatsover. If you like it, then pay $60 when you can. It has massive support both here and on their own forum.
I use Sonar Producer8, but I have used Reaper as well. I dig it.

I'm not sure you'd really need an Axiom. I went through some of the same research on keyboards and ended up with the Oxygen (v3). Considerably cheaper, and all you're missing out on is the action on the Axiom (which I wasn't a fan of) and the pads. If you're programming drums you can map them to the keys, and even if you decide that pads work out better there are nice inexpensive pad-only controllers. Then again, if price isn't too much of a concern, by all means go Axiom.

I'd agree with this. Try out Reaper -- I started using it as a stopgap and have settled in to it very easily.

+1 on Reaper http://www.cockos.com/reaper/ for $60 (free to try).

You may want to check out the Emu 0404 USB for best specs for <$200 (compare dynamic range). I have the 0404 and it's very quiet, has excellent A/D and D/A conversion, decent preamps .

I'm definitely set on getting reaper now it looks easier to understand and nothing but rave reviews about it. I'm still up in the air about the interface so keep giving advice on that. Anybody have experience with EZ Drummer?

axiom 25 all the way. best usb midi controller on the market in my opinion

I've just downloaded and Installed reaper. i like the plugins that come with it. Up to now i've just used cubase le (the first version, it came with my emu 0404 pci card) and to be honest i can't really afford expensive software, so this is ideal. I'm also thinking of using EZ Drummer but at the mo i'm put off by the price. Anyone got experience with it, i'd like to know too?
