Hey, I'm new here and I don't know too much about microphones as of now, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out. It seems that every mic has some pros and cons and I am getting more and more clueless as to what would work for me. I have a deep voice and we will also be recording guitar amps, drums, and acoustics. What mic do you think would be the best all around, or what one would be good for one or the other? Thanks!

Buy an SM57 and a Naiant omni condenser. Use the Naiant for acoustic guitar (or any acoustic instrument) and drumset overhead, and the 57 for vocals or close mic'ing anything loud like a guitar amp or snare.

Total under $150.

Thanks! Those are great for the guitars from what I just read. I am actually intrigued by the Naiant, but the sm57 is not for me (just preference! I know they are great mics!). I still need a decent mic for vocals though. Does anyone know if any of these are good for deep vocals-AT 30355

AKG perception 200/400

CAD GXL2200

Rode NT2

Would any of these also be good for drums or instruments too?

My friend has one. I have mic'd my cab with it and it was nice. I didn't like how my Martin sounded with it though once I compared it to my friends Baby Bottle. The Blue just seemed warmer. I really liked the sound of a condenser on my acoustic and I need a mic for vocals first and foremost... I usually run my guitars and basses through preamps (POD) straight into my cheap mixer so where the sm57 is at its best, I don't really need a mic for that. I have nothing against a 57.

I'm really interested in the Naiant you mentioned though! They seem to be a real bang for the buck. Which one do you suggest, the X-T or the MSH-2? At that price I can easily pick up a matched pair. I hear they are great for acoustics and drums.

I just would like to know what would be a good first condenser for vocals still though. I have heard a lot of mixed things and I do not want to get a p.o.s. one, just one that is decent.

Oktava

Oktava MK012 or the MC012 same mic company made two names. You can get two for like 150 so get two of those an a sm57 and your unstopable. Then a akg d112 eventually.

Good luck getting two for $150. I can usually find them for $100-125 apiece if I spend enough time searching, but they've definitely gone up quite a bit since the GC days....

They're great overheads. They're also great at adding meat to the sound of any instrument that sounds a little thin on its own.
