Nice. I like the guitar tones. The drums sound good and the bass has a good groove. The vocals aren't sitting just right for me but I cant really put a finger on it. Real drums? Good drummer if so. I like the vocal harmonies at the end of the lines. Coolstuff my man.:)

Cool. Sounds good!

The biggest problem I hear is that the toms need to be thinned up some.
Too much in the 100 to 250hz range. I think the bass is guilty of that as well
but not near to the extend of the toms.

I'd personally see what you could get away with as far as hi-passing the toms goes.

Vocals are nice, but they could use some automation and just a tad 3k shaved off.

Very nice job! Just tame the boom a bit.

Cool song too. Love the lead guit tone!

Edit*** vocals are a bit pitchy in places. spots need to be retracked or fixed via pitch correction.

nice song. nice pocket! I liked the vocals, they sounded warm - but you were off in a few spots - punch in a fix 'em! ;)

bottom end sounded good here, but that could be my preference.

I've got those frequencies boosted on the overheads (there are no close mic'd toms) so I'll cut them back a bit

Yeah it's not my best performance I can do better. Automation meaning..? Sorry I'm pretty new at the recording game!

Thanks for the input!!

Automation meaning, adjusting the level of the vocals as the song goes along. If you are working with a computer you can program the levels you want for certain spots of the song. Right now the vocals are a bit buried in the louder (music) areas and perhaps a bit out front (loud) in the quieter passages, but mostly a bit buried (quiet) in places. Automation would allow you to make the vocals louder only where they need it.

Hope that helps.

Ok I'll ride the faders. This is a scratch track of a 9 song CD we're doing and we are re-doing all of them after. I did this this way to learn how to record/mix as we went along.

Do you have time to listen to one more??

shit..

if you're just learning you definately have some natural talent at this..

sounds great!

Sounds good. You can get away with a bigger bottom on this song, so it doesn't stand out as much.. sounds very good. You just have more room in this song for it. You have some pretty bad hum in the start (guitar amp?)

Though you can get away with the bigger bottom on this song I would recomend the same treatment as I said on the other song in regards to the bass and drums. Mind you I am not talking drastic eq changes. I just think it would have a cleaner tighter sound and keep it consistant with the other song. It would also make it work well on more systems. The bass guit on this song could be a bit much on a system with hyped low end.

No need to ride the fader on the vocals on this song.

Great drummer! Cool song again;) Nice stuff man! You really don't need much help:) This song on it's own is pretty good to go. I like the fact that your mix is consistant between the two songs. Try too keep it that way.

Once again nice stuff!

Ok I'm lying a bit. I used be a broadcast engineer, (electronic repair at a tv/radio station), repair music electronics, play music and have done live sound before, so I'm drawing experience from those fields, but this is a different show all together, but thanks for the compliments anyways.

AH HA!!! Busted:D

Ya the biggest thing in recording vs live is that you have to worry about how it will sound on a myriad of different systems.

Just curious, what monitors are you using?

roland dp 7's,

in a soundproofed room, soundproofed meaning all the walls are covered with acoustic ceiling tiles in a "floating" room within a room. I put superchunk bass traps in the corners. I have NO idea how to mix there yet, although the live sound is pretty good.I've been using cans way too much until I get used to the room. I don't think the room is that coloured, it's just I have to develop an ear for recording

The biggest differences between live and recording for me are..

- vocals, I'm used to the vocals being kinda sunk in the mix where as recorded they are right up front

- drums, well you usually don't have to shape the sound live, not in the small venues I did, it was more control

It's actually totally different.... but WAY more rewarding, the same goes for playing live and recording

BTW don't ask me if those monitors are any good, they are the first studio monitors I've heard/owned in my life

I couldn't find the monitors on-line. Oh well. I was just curious. I am very happy with mine.

Well if all you have done is mix these songs on the ds7's with out taking notes from outside systems to make tweeks, they must be pretty decent monitors;) Perhaps a tad shy on the low end but, that's pretty much par for the course. You get used to that.
