Repurpose Microphone Stands as Speaker Stands

Hi group.

I'm trying to sort out a new room (seems familiar round here), and I'm trying to figure out a short-term method for positioning monitors.

It would be really useful just to use some of the spare (!) microphone stands as speaker stands. If I could get something to attach a flat shelf/tray to the top of a vertical stand, I guess that would do the job. I've got a few different monitors I'd like to try in the room, so I'm going for flexibility rather than permanence. Max weight ~5kg.

Given I'm no genius, I guess someone has done this already, but my Google searches can't find any cheap-n-cheerful answers.

Anyone been there, done that, wanna share?

Cheers!

The key feature is strength. A 5Kg speaker attached to a mic stand with a ⅜ or ⅝ threaded attachment puts severe stress on what is a very small surface area. One tug of the cable, or kick of the stand could bring expensive speakers crashing down. If you must use something cheap - how about proper speaker stands, as in the ones for small PA - with the 35mm spigot mounts. Much safer.

Made my own stands for about $20 out of some ply wood. Solid ones too.

Well, maybe more like $50 in todays prices LOL.

Alan.
