Can this space even come close to working?

I have 2 choices for my "Home Studio." Space is short with 2 kids, so I'm forced to choose either the attic (floorplan below) or the basement (pretty standard 2 long rectangular room layout). Problems arise with both spots, because of the fear of moisture and low (7') ceiling in the basement. The attic...well, take a look.

The ceilings in the attic are also 7' in the center, but since I have a steep roof (and the 2 smaller areas are dormers), the slope starts about 5-6 feet off the floor. The "doorway" in the rough sketch is just an open area in the wall that the steps up to the room go.

Suggestions are welcome.

I've seen worse work pretty well. You just have to trap the peak of that ceiling, so the ceiling will effectively be a little lower. So long as you set the room up correctly from there and hit the other acoustic essentials adequately, you should be okay. There will always be some limitations, some things that you just have to get used to and work around, but it'll work.
