How do you go about remaking an old song?

As far as asking for permission to use the song? Do you try to get hold of the artist or the record company?

Who says you have to "shell out big time?"

You pay depending on how many copies you plan to sell of the CD that the song is on. I don't remember the exact rate but it isn't that high.

If you don't plan on making any money off the song, then you just need permission, but they may make you pay a small fee.

Cool, thanks alot. :)

Shit man you just get that sample chop it up in the MPC.... oh the right way. :D

I believe the rate is $0.07 per song per cd with a maximum of 4 songs. I don't have my music business book on hand at the moment.

You just need to get what's known as a "mechanical license." Google it, 'cause I'm tired and about to go to bed.
