Free composition software?

Pirating is too time consuming (not to mention rather unethical). Anyone know of any decent software for notation? I have a MacBook, so finding stuff is a bit difficult right now, but I thought I'd ask just in case someone knows of software that works on the Intel processors.

Oh, and if there aren't any free programs, can you recommend something rather affordable that works on Intel?

Dang. I suppose I'll just jump through the hoops and download Finale NotePad. I may grab a demo of Sibelius if there's one out there, too. Looks like I'll just have to go with the "pay a ton and do a ton" option. Thanks.
