My son is in France and tell me his (old, PCWorld) tablet has recently stopped outputting audio.

AFAICT the music is playing, he gets an indication on screen but no audio from the headphone jack. I know nothing of tablets but could this be a "CODEC" problem?

anything is possible but i would expect it is a hardware problem unless he recently made any changes to the software

    hardware wears out
software goes forever until you find the bug and it bytes you

Has he paired it with a Bluetooth device recently so that now the default sound output is Bluetooth? Has he tried plugging an audio interface into it via an OTG cable? I'm just wondering if the default audio device has changed?
