Sm81 vs. sm81-LC mics

Does anyone know what difference there is to the “LC” model?
Sorry for the boob Q. I can’t seem to find the distinction elsewhere online.

I bought a pair of Shure SM81-LC many years ago and had the same question.

I never found it in Shure print anywhere but people seem to think that "LC" means 'less cable' - I.E. sold without a cable.
As far as I know they are the same microphone.

It looks like SM81-LC is the manufacturer's number for that model, and it's colloquially known as just the SM81. That's my best guess based on what I see, at least.

I actually bought the CN version of the 57 in the late 70s, and the cable that came with it still works and is amazingly tough and heavy. Switchcraft connector mic end, Cannon on the other.

I thought they should've changed that in the 70's. PC (Plus Cable), WC (With Cable) -- Anything would have been LESS confusing (heh... LC) than "Less Cable" IMHO. I'm *assuming* it came from the way-back when many of the mics had oddball plug and screw-on connectors (think of the Sphereodyne models) - still - WC, PC, +C (Oooh... that's my new favorite) would have made much more sense in cataloging.
