Ur22 AI question for podcast mixing

Currently running from my main outs on my mixer into the UR22, the ur22 is connected to the computer by usb for recording and bringing in audio clips.

Can I run to trs to trs out the Line Outputs on the UR22 back into a channel line in on the mixer?

Im looking at using this method to deliver audio clips to the podcast listeners during the cast (so I can control the level and run headphone out from the mixer instead of the headphone out on the AI). I just wasnt sure how the routing was in the UR22 and if this created some weird time loop =(

OR

Would it be better to run audio out on my computer to line in on the mixer?
Id like to use the AI route if possible for the lower noise, just want to make sure I dont blow anything up =)

No problem with running the balanced (TRS) outs from your interface back into the mixer...

BUT

(and it's a big but)

How successful you will be will depend on a mix of the software you have in the computer and the capabilities of your mixer.

As you've identified, if you simply feed the line out into the mixer then back into the computer on the main outs, you have created an unusable loop. If the mixer has multiple bus or aux outputs and inputs, you may be able to make things work--but if it's a small cheapie with everything going to a single pair of main outs then you may be stymied.

I have a mackie 1403 vlz3, tons of different hook up points, just not 100% sure what way to do it so that I can inject clean audio from the computer and still have everything recording and still have everyone in the podcast be able to hear themselves and the audio from the computer as well.

So got the cables I needed and tested it out, works awesome! Just gotta mute the output on my computer or else the output and recording when playing an audio clip get sent twice creating a chorus effect haha.
Time to put sticky notes on everything so I remember!

Glad to hear it works.

A couple of things...

First, I'm out of my depth on a recommendation but I believe there are specialist podcast production apps that might automate things for you and save you a fortune in post it notes! Might be worth a look.

Second, (and I'm going to be shot by HR membership for saying this) but the biggest noise problems on cheap interfaces are on the record side, less so on playback. It might be worth an experiment digging out an old computer (playback of single tracks doesn't make any big demands on the computer) and try running that into your mixer for playback purposes only. There's a bit of freeware called "Soundplant" that might be ideal, allowing you to put a different sound (stings, interviews, music, etc.) on each key of your keyboard and playback in random order with an instant start. Or, I have a cheap app on my iPhone called "Play Fade Pause" which I use as a back up source when doing sound playback for live theatre. The output isn't quite as good as direct from my PC with a proper interface but the differences are barely audible.
