newbie question about 4 tracks

A friend of mine and I were recording a song using his 4 track recorder. We recorded 3 tracks: rhythm guitar, bass, lead guitar. When we listen to the song on the 4 track, we can hear all 3 tracks but when played in a common everyday cassette player (we tried a few) you can only hear the rhythm guitar and bass, the lead guitar can't be heard. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? We're totally new to DIY recording.

A recording done on a 4-track machine needs to be "mixed-down" to a stereo track to be able to be played on a normal cassette player.

The reason is, your 4-track is recording on all 4 cassette tracks in 1 direction ,k at the same time, whereas a stereo cassette player only plays back 2 tracks in each direction.

You also cannot use the "other side" of a 4-track cassette recording, because there is no "other side".........
