music in your face...

what is the best way to bring the sound of my tracks up close and personal, or in your face.
what would i use for this? all of the things i record seem to be dead when i convert them to MP3. and sometimes after ive recorded them, but before i convert.
anyone have any suggestions?

It's all relativity - if you have a dry vocal and a wet track the vocal will sound upfront, but if the track is dry it all sounds the same and the ear looses the feeling of upfront.

hmmm, that makes sense, but i guess im going to have to experiment. but isnt there some sort of effect i could purchase (expander, compressor....) and add to my gear to make completed tunes and tracks sound more punchy?

Compressors work great for punchiness. Multiband compressors work good on an entire mix. Sending your final mix to a mastering house works even better.

Getting everything right when you first record it works best.

Make sure you're recording and mixing techniques are good before considering that you need to spend money to get a magic box that will save your mix.

However, you may have already considered this. :)
