Midi drums to separate tracks.....

Hello all....

I'm very new to this so please bare with me.

I want to record drums from a midi device (yamaha dtxpress using Sonar 2XL). I can record the audio, and all midi to one midi track. I want to separate my individual drums. For example, kick on track one, snare on track two, so on and so forth. How in the hell do I do that?

Thanks,
MFM

Method 1: Build a drum map so you can change volumes of individual drums and cymbals. Can't EQ the individual notes however.

Method 2: Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the note with the drum or cymbal you want and select that row of notes. Copy and paste to a new track.

Method 3: Use the CAL routing called 'Split to tracks' and it will do it automatically. Mixed results with this one.

Finally, after you have all your tracks done, save them as a template which you can easily call up the next time you want to do this.

While recording?

I'd like the seperation to take place while recording.

Is there a way I can set a specific trigger/pad to go to a specific/separate track while recording?
