Help With Recording Problem

Hi,

I was trying to record vocals into my mic pre input #1, at the same time recording acoustic guitar pugged into the DI input #2. Whenever I started to sing, the guitar DI channel volume would drop to a really low level. Then, as soon as I stopped singing, the guitar volume would go up to normal. What is causing this? I thought the two signals would be independent of one another.

I have an avalon AD2022 preamp
Shure sm7b for vocals
The AD2022 connects into my ua2192 ad/da converter, then into the S/PDIF input of a E-MU 1212m sound card in my PC
BTW, this never happens when I record using a mic into the second input. It only happens when I try to DI the guitar.

Mic the guitar. I am betting the input is a mic input and not line level. You are getting some interference from the DI'd guitar and it's taking the signal strength away from the other mic. If you are going to DI the guitar, I think you may need a DI box.
