bleeding and sympathetic vibrations

i'm having my first go around at multitrack drum recording. my bass itself sounds surprisingly good for the craptastic set i have... and the snare itself sounds ok but when i hit the kick it vibrates the snare something fierce. and i don't mean the snare wires...but it makes it sound like a very high pitched tom. i don't think it could be gated out (even if i had a gate). eq helps a bit but not enough. i have a muffle ring on the snare. my next thought would be room acoustics but i don't think theres much i can do. i'll record a clip of it tomorrow. any suggestions?

well when you record a drum kit, that is really what you are going for, especially with overheads... some drums sound a certain way when you hit them because of how they react with the other drums around them. that being said, I can understand you don't want a ringing sound from the snare. but you have a muffle ring, is it in tune? you could tune it to a different note? also, maybe ask the people in the drum forum.
