URGENT: All of a sudden, won't record

Hi all:
Well, all my helpful friends who taught me much, I've done little recording since, and suddenly I have a great Voice Over job, and I can't get my machine to record anything. I can't figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong. I have my audio buddy, 3525 Audio Technica Mike, Cool Edit 2000. Please help. I'm on a deadline.
 
Okay, we'll have to problem solve.....

Try this first:

START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ENTERTAINMENT>VOLUME CONTROL>OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>RECORDING>LINE IN> then make sure that it is not muted.
 
Mic plugged into audio buddy....

Mic plugged into audiobuddy - audiobuddy plugged into blue port.
 
Spikes

Yes, thank you, but the spikes (sound waves) on my Cool Edit have absolutely nil, only flat bottom and top, like a b lunt haircut. Any idea what's causing this? Joan
