recording vocal with 2 mics

Is setting up 2 different condenser mics to record 1 vocal a good
move?

If so, can anybody offer ideas about mic placement, do's, don'ts,
or any tips and techniques in general?

Thanks to all who answer.

There is no real point in capturing a stereo vocal unless you were distant micing in a room to capture natural ambience or close micing to do some weird panning type effect. Close, stereo micing vocals will just give you a shifting stereo image and probably some phase cancellation issues.

I am finishing up a project from a band called Autonomy,
For one song I put a rode NTK and an AT4033 side by side
I then had him sing the song between both mics, reason being
I used a radio voice on a couple of verses and put the radio voice
on the 4033 as the pre chorus comes in I slowly droped the fader on the 4033 while bringing up the fader on the rode, giving a morphing effect that worked perfectly, hence another way of
useing two mics.

I used to mikes once, one clean and the other went to an small overdriven amp in another room. they were recorded on different tracks so I could chose between the distorted and the clean one. It worked out pretty ok.
