Recommendations on Near-Field Monitors

I'm looking for a good pair of near-field monitors. . . Any recommendations with a price tag under, say $400? That's WITH the power amp (active monitors or passive w/ external amp, both OK). You laugh. . . but I'm a Newbie. . . I don't know any better, right?

Also, thanks to all the replies on my previous post. Your input has given me some good ideas.

EVENT PS6'S this weekend at your local GC, I believe...They list right now for five bills but might go down for this green tag shit they got running.
 
I am just a newbie myself, but I just picked up a pair of M Audio SP-5Bs, and they sound great. They were only $300 for the pair.
