RE: Volume levels

I am recording to a Yamaha soundcard from my stereo receiver by way of RCA plugs to mini plug on computer. The piece I was recording did have a lot of drums, but even with the volume levers almost all the way to the bottom on the Yamaha station AND on the system volume controls, I was still hitting in the red quite a bit. Am I missing a volume control somewhere? or should I not worry that the volume control is almost at the bottom. The resulting wavefile sounds okay but is hitting the top and bottom a lot.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Trenna.

While I have never used the Yamaha piece you mention, I know that a lot of music software has an internal recording level that you can set (like Cubase VST, for one).

By adjusting this control, you can keep your spikes from getting in the red. There may be something like this in your software.

Hope this helps.
