n-track: how do i record seperate tracks while listening to the rhythm track.....

How do i record seperate tracks while listening to the rhythm track ie through my headphones without re-recording it (the rhythm track) onto the new track.

I just want to be able to record a few guitar tracks and not have each new one contain any of the previous tracks (that i may want to listen to as i play the new one).

Im using the shareware version of n-track studio.

I have the SB Live! value sound card in my PC.

i didnt think such a simple thing could be so difficult.

could anybody please help me out here?

i know this has got to be a basic question.

I also had that version of N-Track but I went out and purchased Pro Tool LE software. I cant remember how it is done in N-Track, but their is a forum for N-Track users in the BBS

I answered this in the other place you posted it (not a good idea to duplicate your posts) but have since thought of something else, so I'll post it here cause I don't feel like going to look for the other one again.

In the SBLive mixer there's a recording option on the left side that let's you specify what it recorded... set it to Line In or whater you have the guitar plugged into. If it's set on "What You Hear" right now, it's gonna record everything you hear.. including the playback of the existing tracks.
