I have a gateway windows me computer. I dont know all that much about computers. Anyway i want to record my voice and guitar onto my computer then burn cd so drummer can practice at home. I have a peaveyxr600f mixer and speaker cabinets, mics, everything for a live show but i have no idea how to record. Whats the easiest way to record to my computer and be able to mix down voice and guitar and be able to add in drums and bass later? I realize i need at least a 4 track recorder or recording software. Thanks for any help?

Download a reocrding program... like Ntrack (fasoft.com). It is pretty easy to figure out once you have it loaded. Then pretty much you go Mic->cable->mixer mic input->mixer line output->soundcard line input-> recording program.

That is all. Once you get whatever you program you wanna use, you will have more specific question pertaining to that program so just post them up as you go!

My obligatory standard reply that I keep in Wordpad:

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows
you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:

Good Newbie guide that also explains all the basics:

Plenty of software around to record for free to start out on:

Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net

how much ram, and memory do you have...

and you'll eventually wanna upgrade your computer or get a new one. Because windows me is becomming out dated.

btw: there is a company (dont remember who) that offers a free version of there softwhere but only for "windows me" ( i think). any one know what it was...

cubase maybe? can anyone help the kid out on that one?

That would be free pro tools (ran on 98 only), dont know where you would get it though. Win9x (95,98, ME) is no longer supported by Microsoft and is a legacy OS (no more drivers for any new gear)
