Bandwidth as I recall seeing:
Wax cylinder ??
Telephone 3500 cps
78s ?
AM radio - 5Kcps
FM radio - 15 Kcps
vinyl lps - 18 Kcps
hi fi - 20 Kcps
cheap preamp - 100 Kcps
expensive logo box - 1 MCps
out of site - 1 GCPS
golden eared dream - at least 1 exa peta Cps
Okay now, never had wax cylinders. But did play some 78s as a kid and listen to AM radio.
Pleasurable in spite of the flaws. Ditto BnW TV with noise.
FM radio - perfectly happy with that
Vinyl LPs - happy with the good ones. Some were noisy or had other issues.
But CDs were similar. Mostly good with some not so good.
Generic HiFi system - happy with a good one, but I buy low end so some are bad. You take your chances.
Cheap name system eg Allied radio electronics or Lafayette - happy with them. Only lasted 20 years though and had to buy a replacement.
Cheap preamps for stand alone use to computer DAW -- fully satisfied.
Perhaps easier use or more features would have been nice , but sound was excellent.
Moving on up to the fancy names - Listened to them at the store but saw no benefit even if I could save up to buy it.
So - How much bandwidth do you need to be satisfied that your gear is good enough ???
