Guitar amp headphone output and audio interface

"Half-assed" indeed Ash'. What they SHOULD do is feed the OP amp through two equal resistors of about 220R+ so that shorting one does not collapse the signal. Still not best practice but an NE5532 with both sections paralleled can cope with that.

Dave.
If you've got a dual opamp, just use both and each side is independent of the other.

Well no because a single 5532 craps out below about 500 Ohms so you need two in pllel to drive cans. Still beyond the spec but for small signal voltages (most cans hit 100dB SPL for less than a volt) and the rough-arsed sound tolerated by gitists, it'll do!

And probably drummers too.

Yes, the headphone output will put the same signal on both pins of the balanced input, net result zilch. As mentioned, you could get a 1/4" TRS (stereo) plug to two 1/4" TS (mono) plugs and feed that to the interface.

This would be my advice as well. Last weekend I recorded a tiny Orange amp over the headphone output with a so called Y-cable or insert-cable (=the same thing, different name). Stereo side in the headphone output and the two mono jacks in the jack inputs on the interface and there you go.

P.S. The recording turned out great. So it is a decent way to record a guitar.
