J.C. or anyone, what kind of filter could I use to stop that hiss out of the amp? Would it help if I used the headphone out to go straight to the P.C.?

In addition to suggestions from your other post... a noise reduction unit could help. Noise reduction racks or pedals give you the liberty of adjusting the I/O thresholds and filter out signals that are above or below your selected range. Booting an amp directly into a PC is not the most supported method for recording. That opens up so many options for overload and screw-ups.
Also feel free to research a few posts here about compressors. A compressor is used on any sound that needs to compensate a dynamic range as well.
