Electric Acoustic Guitar

I am just starting to record with my Electric Acoustic Guitar, and I think the sound is rather thin. I´ve tried playing with the mid, treble and the bass, but I can´t seem to find the "sound". What I want is a nice and crispy acoustic sound.

Suggestions?

what kind of electric acoustic?
That makes a big difference in how you should approach it.

I have an Ovation electric/acoustic guitar that I used for huindreds of live gigs: awesome for a compromise betweeb depth (bottom rhythm) and still could get so nice lead work out of it too. Great for a 3-piece band, for sure.

I too wonder for recording purposes if it's still better to mic my Ovation to record (no amp) or to plug it in to my Fender tube amp, mic that, and take that sound.

or do all of them and combine the tracks .... a little bit 'o' this .... a little bit 'o' that .....

I haven't played all that many A/E's, but my personal experience has been:

Acoustic electrics don't really sound that good, when amplified;

Piezo under-saddle pickups sound HORRIBLE when amplified;

Electric guitar amps, even good tube ones, make it even worse;

"Acoustic guitar amplifiers" (an oxymoron?) make the best of a bad sound, with considerable DSP magic;

The best recorded sound is achieved by mic'ing the acoustic guitar.

YMMV, 'natch.
